27

Los Angeles is at a turning point. We are living in a defining moment. What happens next is up to us. Over the past few years, problems and challenges have shaken this city -- and tremendous opportunities for change have presented themselves. How do we rise to this moment and emerge a better place to live? What will it take to create a more just and a more equitable community? Working together, how are we going to create a stronger, forward-thinking Los Angeles? Mike Bonin, writer, teacher, progressive activist and former City Councilmember, looks at the issues and problems facing Los Angeles,  examines ideas, and talks with the people who will lead us to a brighter future.

    big Mike Bonin fan!
Mike Bonin is an amazing counsel member and an all around amazing human being. He is among the few in LA actually trying to solve the homelessness crisis instead of just sweeping it under the rug. I am proud that my city has someone like him trying to make change for the better. It’s always been obvious that his only goal is to help his constituents, he is so down to Earth!!

Mike Bonin is the worst politician in Los Angeles
Lies and more lies. He’s anti tax paying resident, pro criminal and pro homeless being allowed to do whatever they want including being able to pitch tents in front of our houses. He refuses to implement any laws or rules on the drug addict vagrants that have invaded and destroyed Venice and the west side. He allows and encourages drug use on our streets and sidewalks by vagrants who steal from the residents and break into local businesses. He refuses to help the average resident, pushes all the homeless into Venice and mar vista while he lives up the hill in the palisades. The worst kind of typical California hypocrite politician that have destroyed our state and city. “Do as I say not as I do” is his mantra.

    More Bonin Lies
This guys’ hype machine is on full blast and always broken. He’s destroyed the Westside of LA and now he wants to tell the world what a fantastic job he’s doing? Pass! Also, with budget cuts, furlows, not enough people to do the work, and record high homelessness... is this the best use of my councilmember’s time?

Mike Bonin is an im imbecile
Mike Bonin has let transient meth heads take over his district. He’s either a complete imbecile or completely corrupt. A transient drug addict recently killed an elderly Venice resident during a bike theft. Assaults and fires are daily. This is the environment that Mike Bonin has created.

Giving us better insights on what’s happening in our city
What a great concept for a podcast. Can we make this a requirement for every elected official? I find it so much more insightful to listen in on a conversation to understand where Councilman Bonin is coming from than try to digest the more polished and carefully written content of an OpEd or website. Hearing where he disagrees with the direction of the city on homelessness and hearing his ideas/opinions in general is worth a listen. Looking forward to more insightful episodes.

    Dissonance
I’m torn on this podcast. I really welcome any show that will discuss these local issues. It’s just that I am not sure it’s appropriate for a city councilor to do so. Mike is my council member, and he’s been on the council 7 years. In Los Angeles, city councilors like Mike wield immense power. Should someone with so much power over these issues moderate the discussions? Who holds them to account in this format? The show has a dissonance that makes me uncomfortable.
