These conversations are great examples of people having constructive dialogues coming from different philosophical traditions. The differences are acknowledged and maintained without sacrificing respect for the different traditions. I end up learning about other traditions as much as my own, which draws me closer to my own community and our neighbors. The topics are interesting and I typically need to listen to the discussions more than once given the richness of the conversations. Wish we had more high-quality programming like this.

Renovatio hosts meaningful discussions that aren’t happening in many other places. By bringing together diverse view points committed to truth and the exploration of big ideas, Renovatio is a critical space.

Renovatio is a much-needed journal and Zaytuna College under Shaykh Hamza has done an excellent job of highlighting the importance of metaphysics for our modern conidition.

His gripe is that noone believes in mythology anymore, whereas mythology used to help keep behavior in order via the threats of sinning against God and wanting to please God. We are quite a bit beyond believing Muhammad, for example, rode on a mythical lightening fast animal into deep space while wearing what are essentially a robe and slippers. Hamza complains that the world is in ruin because we’ve lost the ‘check’ of mythology. Well, the world wasnt particularly peaceful under any mythology ever - especially Islam. The world now has vastly more knowledge and requires better paradigms than talking cows, virgins in heaven, or demons entering your bathroom. After all these years Hamza has failed to realize that he simply enjoys the culture and wishes it were true. Thus, he has not been able to develop any viable solutions outside conversion and the old co-opting of Judeo-Christianity scheme. If Muhammad were alive today, Muhammad wouldnt believe Muhammad. Very disappointed that Hamza is still stuck, nothing’s changed.
