rockdaddy55Can The Drummer Have Some?!Fantastic podcast for music fans. It’s great to hear the perspectives of so many drummers who are integral to some amazing music yet you rarely hear their voices. It spans many decades and genres: pop, rock, punk, funk, mainstream and alternative. And they talk about everything. Host Joe Wong does a great job of making the guests comfortable and they have open, candid conversations. Highly recommended!
-
JustPizzaWell crafted exploration of a passion for drums, creativity, finding joyIf you like drums, if you reflect on your playing, if you like music, and if you want to hear honesty in the shared experience between drummers and more. This is for you.

BcfongleeEntertaining, informative, and engagingJoe’s deep musical knowledge and astute observations stemming from his own emotional development is as interesting to me as the guests he interviews. I often feel like I’m hanging with a good friend while listening. Whether you’re a drummer or just a lover of music this podcast is certainly worth your time. Also, check his music out!

Smg1824I’m addicted...and I’m only the guitar player!Great job! Great stories...even from guys/bands that I’m not that into! Such an enjoyable show and such an inspiration to keep practicing!

crwhite007Among the best podcasts out there! This is one of the best interview podcasts of any genre, not just drummer or music related. High production value, insightful questions, interesting guests. Joe has a pleasant voice, speaks from his experience as a professional musician, but gives the guests room to tell their stories without talking over them or pushing his own agenda. These shows are great for enjoying deeper info about your favorite drummers, or discovering musicians you haven’t yet heard of. I don’t think I’ve ever come away bored or disappointed with any of them. Maybe only that some aren’t long enough, because they’re so good.

Trying to get stuff doneGreat Interviews, Need Some CompressorsThe host does a great job asking interesting questions; great at making guests comfortable. I really wish they would use some compressors and coach the guests about talking directly into the mic. Or get better mics. When they speak loudly, you have to turn the podcast down, but then you can’t hear the interview when they return to speaking at a normal volume. Would be a 5 star podcast if you didn’t have to constantly adjust the volume.

oh mangHelping get through social distancingI don’t necessarily play drums (well) but these interviews are so great to hear as a musician. Keep it up!
-
Dirt cityThe best!Incredible guests, and Joe Wong is such a good interviewer. He's able to get really interesting stuff out of his guests, rather than just the usual talking points. Love it!
-
MaddThunkJoe is a Fantastic InterviewerJoe asks very in-depth and honest questions, while also letting the guest wander in wonderful ways, accessing areas of their career or life in unexpected ways.
-
H.HaydenDecent podcast, slightly overrated.Wong's show is good and worth checking into time and again. He has improved a lot as an interviewer and has a pleasant voice. Way better than the Sound Opinions of the world, as it is far deeper and long form, not as good as Protonic Reversal. Too bad about the shift away from being about the lives of drummers, but I understand.
-
theidolnessofmodsGreat guests!!Check out the Zachary Barocas interview; an excellent talk with one of my absolute favorite drummers!!!
-
GroperSteveBest music podcast? If there’s a better podcast for interviews with music legends, I haven’t heard it. Bravo Joe
-
JaxnJaxnMy favorite music podcast, hands down.I never miss an episode even if I’ve never heard of the guest. To me, that’s when I know a podcast is great. Thanks, Joe!
-
LazzzzzzaredLet them talk, it’s a podcastListening to the Ian Mackaye now and this interview repeatedly interrupts and confuses the points Ian made. Let them talk. Listen to what they say. Ian repeatedly has to correct the questions this guy was asking because he didn’t let him talk. I did enjoy the podcast but the session stutters because this interviewer doesn’t listen.
-
dreaminterpreter333Amazing ResourceLove the Trap Set and the wide variety of guests Joe brings on. Couldn’t recommend this podcast highly enough.
-
Nico. D.The Best Music PodcastNo one interviews like Joe, and no one has guests like he does. His extensive background and love for music makes every conversation extremely interesting. I didn’t know that there was some who would interview people like Brian Chippendale and Thor Harris. Bringing artists like them, and ones I have never heard of is one of the things that makes this podcast great. Thanks so much for what you do, it means a lot to have such an excellent place to listen to your conversations with these people.
-
JaehfiaenfiaehwfionawelckmwOne of the best podcastsThis is one of my favorite podcasts. Joe is an amzing interviewer who makes the most out of his interviews. Enjoyable if you play drums or if you don't. The podcast is more about the lives of these muscians than playing.
-
GlitterbustAbsolute fave!Always fascinating whether you're a drummer or not. Joe is one of the best interviewers out there with a great "bedside manner" that gets people to really open up. Highest recommendation!
-
Bumpy headHodgesHey Joe, I enjoying your show immensely. It’s meaningfully about people lives / not just gear & bios. Thanks for doing it! I think you’d enjoy talking to Stephen Hodges (Tom awaits, Mavis, David Lynch, etc). Have you considered having him on?
-
StevendubyuhLove it!Fantastic podcast! Joe is a great interviewer. Awesome musical guest.
-
bagelwideReal TalkThank you, Joe, for sharing these conversations.
-
Ben EdgeTherapyJoe Wong’s interview style is almost like that of a therapy session for his subjects, which include some of the greatest drummers and other musicians in the world. He has a knack for being able to make almost anyone cry . . . in a good way!
-
bithanderthalKeep up the good work! Thanks for making such a terrific podcast! I’m new to drumming and enjoy your show as both entertainment and a learning experience as I begin to navigate the world of drumming.
-
Lotechie MoGreat PodcastI recently discovered The Trap Set podcast and have had a chance to listen to a handful of them. I appreciate the in depth interviews and production quality of the podcast overall. Great subjects and a lot of insights from many different drummers. Keep it up!
-
Dean KewntzBest PodcastThis has consistently been my favorite podcast. I have discovered so much about being a musician, an artist, and so much new music because of Joe’s work. I’m into my 30s now and have started playing music again because of this. Thank you Joe.

happy happy haappyJoe is EverythingI have listened to lots of podcasts over the last decade, but nothing compares to this. I am a musician, but not a drummer. I dont know who most of his guests are really. Nevertheless, the musical depth and emotional intelligence that Joe Wong demonstrates in these incredible conversations makes every episode fascinating and enlightening. I anxiously await every new show and my only complaint is that episodes don’t come out often enough. Maybe twice a week, Joe?
-
0tterbahnDeep, ambrosialJoe delicately enchants talented musical geniuses into a psychological safe-zone treehouse where honest discussions unfold about craft, origin, and technique. I appreciate how well Joe can balance conversations between a celebration of uniqueness and nostalgia of common cultural archetypes.

BindingMochiBeautifulGreat podcast! Even when you don’t know much about the interviewee the quality of conversation is excellent! Ray Barbee interview could’ve been twice as long afaic, and the Ian Mackaye one is excellent!

The Ol' Grey GhostTuned UpI love Joe.
-
catniptoyMy new favorite music based podcastI don't normally go for interview style podcasts, and I don't know that I necessarily would have been drawn to a "drummer only" (it's not that exclusive per se) podcast, but Joe's style of interviewing is so piercingly direct that amazing and moving conversations happen about music. It's really a wonderful podcast with a deep catalogue to dig into. Trust me, you don't even have to know of the band/musician being interviewed, there is something wonderfully intuitive and real about how these interviews unfold.
-
tron313Can't not listenThank you for bringing out the stories of my fave drummers, and intro-ing me to guys (and gals) I've never heard of. Every episode is a full listen. No skips!
-
ChezchezThe best podcast on drumming lifestyle. Period.Joe is the best. This is an amazing podcast on so many incredible artists and their stories.
-
Garf47The best drummer-centric podcast there is.Joe Wong interviews not only the well-known drummers we've all heard, but also the unsung heros of underground rock drumming. He dives deep, beyond the instrument and into the motivations behind each player. This is the most thorough and enjoyable podcast about drummers. Keep on rockin', Joe!
-
Bama Lamas drummerLove the Trap Set!!I’ve been listening to the Trap Set for about a year now. Started by listening to some of the bigger name drummer interviews and now listen to any of the drummers. It’s more about life than drums but as a drummer I find it very insightful. Nobody ever talks to the drummer!! I also feel this pod has helped my drumming by bringing me closer to the overall spirit of drummers.
-
fan of bonzoThanksIncredible interviews. You are creating an important archive. Thank you!
-
Rogue_Fourbest drum podcast! The Trap Set is always great and never disapoints. it's great to listen to while at work and is by far the best drumming podcast out there. great interviews with a wide variety of guests, joe always keeps it interesting. it's got the nice touch of showing the human side to alot of my heroes and what they've been through to get to where they are.
-
Purson PersonGreat ShowGreat interviewer. Smart and interesting questions, humorous and "personable." The interview with Bruford was great. Nicely done periodic short musical selections. Etc. etc. Marvelous Thanks for this show.
-
BexNarkGood questionsI love the musical genre diversity of the drummers-this podcast interests both my husband and me. And I love the hard questions even if it sometimes seems to get awkward for a hot minute.
-
etown 4Best podcast around !Love it! It’s my favorite podcast and I look forward to every episode
-
Super buggy👎🏻Essential for any drummer!Modern Drummer magazine was my bible growing up. This is MD(like) in a new format! So important to know who is listening to who, past and present. Some great behind the scenes stories and topical discussions! A+, Joe!
-
adumb112Great Stuff!Joe does a great job with this podcast! Solid guests & great stories. The Trap Set always makes my Wednesday better.
-
socolivedotcomGreat for drummers and non-drummers alikeDon’t come here for tech geek drum talk. This is more about what makes an artist tick and why they do what they do. Joe is n astute interviewer and has a natural ability to get inside the head of his guests without ever feeling forced. Highly recommended for all fans of music.
-
computerclubThe Lives of DrummersYes, it’s a podcast based around drummers..but it’s the best overall music podcast I’ve ever listened to. Joe does an incredible job of curating guests and asking interesting questions. Thank you for all your hard work!!
-
Cory BonfiglioThe best.Joe’s innate ability as an interviewer makes discussions with musicians who’s music I’ve no interest in worth listening to. I hate being caught up on this show!
