alobebebebaneShameWhat happened to this guy? His book was interesting. I mean the idea was, the writing was atrocious, don't know if anyone actually read the whole thing. Seems like he's lost the plot. He's not being invited to any relevant podcasts anymore and no one with any profile is coming on his. These days he's reposting old interviews and posting snippets of new episodes begging people for money. I think throwing 50 bucks in a fountain is better value for money.

FlameonyouCorrectionJoe used to be nice & kind guy. Have you listened to him lately? His whole demeanor has changed since supporting Trump. Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are. And it’s getting tiring & frankly disgusting, men talking about men that have a women 25 or more years younger than them. It’s gross guys. And y’all know it.

StumblingSageThank you, Chris!Chris flipped my worldview upside down. The podcast plus the book Civilized to death changed my entire trajectory. Very important work teaching human beings to be true to ourselves.

Dingo's MotherThis podcast has changed me in the best ways!I came across this podcast at a time in my life where travel and change wasn’t possible, but in my mind and in many dark lonely nights Chris would take me with him to meet many friends through his interviews, and was able to travel through his stories. I was able to dream, grow, and imagine and this year I became an empty nester, freed myself from the corporate career, and now moving forward in the direction I always imagined. Words can’t express my gratitude for everything Chris has done for my life, happiness, and mental well-being over the years. I am ending 2023 in a completely different space than I started it, and I’ve never been more excited about the future. The highlight of my year was finally meeting Chis at a retreat this summer and thanking him in person. It was kind of surreal to hear and see him in person all week instead of just listening through the podcast. Chris will always have a special place in my heart and has given me courage to step into myself.

BandapandaSea change? As a regular and formerly appreciative listener, the most recent episodes have left a sour taste in my mouth. Chris has hosted a steadily upbeat, considerate and bohemian ensemble. He has championed a message about love and hosts an imperfect but wholesome dialogue about real joys, challenges and culture in changing times. In the past two episodes, Chris has engaged in a conversational turn, voicing the views I hear most often from my self-described libertarian friends. In a defense of his appreciation of Andrew Tate, Chris wanders far afield through fairly weak and ethically light ruminations on politics, race, cancel culture and more. We have less in common than I thought, and now he’s shared more of his inner voice than I had hoped to hear. Time to look elsewhere for the bohemian positivity and forward looking community I hope to find.

TheNix!PhenomenalThe podcast I’ve listened to the most within the past 3+ years. Hours a day for a podcast addict like me. While living abroad, traveling, and otherwise, it brings me solace.
-
AusyjspottyIf I’m being generous maybe one episode in five has merit. Guests with no agenda are sometimes entertaining and occasionally enlightening. Those flogging their book/movie/podcast are often tedious (although Ryan reads the books being plugged, unlike his douche mate Rogan). Avoid the ROMA rants that showcase Ryan’s academic savvy — they’re piled high and deep.

BdjsjaksoaEnjoy listening to ChrisLong time listener here. I enjoy listening to Chris and he brings interesting guests.

tom//$$)(Hey Chris!I feel like Christopher Ryan is a friend of mine and one of these days. I’m going to meet the guy and we’re gonna have a beer. Just a great dude with very great insights. Well, I don’t agree with him about polyamory I do love his general take on the direction of human civilization. I’ve never heard a misanthrope who likes people so much. He’s an interesting guy. I really love the Roma in Toma episodes. The only criticism I could give really is maybe less music. But I know that Chris would say that he wants to involve the community so I guess I can’t really argue with that.

MissoulaMontanaGood showThe ROMAs are great

VisenDeclineBitter man’s repetitive thoughts about the decline of the world, with increasingly more whataboutism and woo sprinkled in. I used to listen to this years ago, but have been disappointed for a while now. Downloaded a couple of episodes after not listening for a couple of years. No thanks.

Oomph lookMoving, insightful, and full of heartThis podcast dives you into the perspectives of fascinating people from all over the world, living lives you would never have thought possible. Listening to this as I've matured has been hugely influential in my life, opening my heart and mind to a world wilder and weirder than I ever would have known. Chris Ryan is a fantastic host and a thoughtful, open-minded human being with quite a unique life himself. This show rarely fails to surprise and illuminate.
-
gwancaYesHighly recommend, he is intuitive, thoughtful and kind and his voice is soothing. I notice that I tried to listen to other podcast by men and I cannot get through their intro because their voices or energy are so freaking annoying :) sorry dear men. But Chris is a great story teller and his voice is calm and soothing. To be honest the only podcast that I listen right now.

Knew NormalConversations like these help me be more compassionate and restore faith in humanity.I’ve been following this podcast for a while and decided to write a review to show some love. Chris’s conversations span such a beautiful spectrum of what’s possible they gives me hope, make me laugh and feel understood by a perfect strangers. Anyone looking to question their assumptions with friends, might want to give this show a listen.

LizzzzzzxxxxxxxxxxxxxObsoleteEnjoy listening to men like this become less and less relevant in this big beautiful world

JordanP153Mediocre may be too kind a descriptionJust a mediocre saggy old man child

BchilsHis books are great and so is this podcastI love hearing Chris’s opinions on everything, he has a very different take on the whole world and I enjoy it

828383Wide variety of interesting guestsListening to like Chris and his guest is like listening to a couple of curious and well educated friends having a conversation. Wonderful
-
OscarVonMeowersonLongtime listener and friendI have been listening to this podcast for several years now and feel like Chris is an old friend, even though we have never met. I love the interesting people that come on the show and all of the different perspectives. Just the fact that they are all open conversations like you are out in the world hanging out, when really I am glued to my desk, working from home, wishing I was living a different life. This podcast brings a lot of joy to my small corner of the world.
-
GwilfaweGreat showChris is so excllent at stimulating my mind. The people he enages with never fail to get the neurons firing. A good author and a seemingly genuine dude.
-
JaiPushkarRajlaid back conversational flowI’ve listened for years. Chris always keeps it interesting….

Tinydinkydaffy89Used to be goodThis used to be one of my favorite podcasts but over the past couple years has really gone downhill. It seems Chris is now only putting in the bare minimum effort required to keep his patrons/subscribers supporting his vagabond lifestyle. Most of the guests now are just random people he hangs out with, not anyone with a specific interesting subject expertise like most of his guests used to be. His whole focus now seems on his new girlfriend and her friends, who he repeatedly has as guests/co-hosts-- if I was interested in what she has to say I would listen to her podcast. Also really enjoyed the "What Makes This Book Great" time but that segment quickly died.
-
YoginiKaren'Dr' Ryan is a Diet Woke, Useful IdiotThis podcast used to be frequently interesting but now it's just tedious. Except for Charles Eisenstein, the guests this last year have provided no information that is useful/helpful to anyone during these times. Chris Ryan and his girlfriend Anya Kaats are Diet Woke, Useful Idiots. P.S. 'Dr' Ryan's recent book Civilized to Death is Boring to Death.

morton513Thank you ChrisChris is one of the minds I stumbled across in my mid 20’s listening to Joe Rogan. As I’ve aged and matured Chris’s words have continued to resonate with me. Thanks for putting these out Chris.
-
harperseventeenUnparalleledThis podcast convinced me that I could have whatever life I wanted, and helped me move through some extremely challenging transitions. It’s always been a light in the dark, and has inspired me in more ways than I can count.

Drew SilveiraEntertaining and InformativeTangentially Speaking was the first podcast I listened to way back in 2016 while hiking the Appalachian Trail. I tore through the episodes out then and have kept up with it to the present moment. Chris does a great job choosing guests and allowing them the space to teach us a great deal about the world around us. From sex workers to environmentalists to artists, a the common thread exhibited throughout this podcast is curiosity. Through Chris and his guests’ limitless curiosity, they inevitably spill wisdom from their conversations, leading to a deep desire to learn about and see more of the beautiful world around us. Keep it up Chris! Curiosity reigns.
-
FormerFanAsOf2020Very inconsistent podcastAnd even more inconsistent host. It’s very strange to me how someone who always talked about the excessive fearfulness in western societies, who calls himself the “shame exorcist” who frees people from shame, who wrote a book on the corruption of institutions, and who encouraged us to always “question the premise”… started shaming his own fans for questioning the premise behind a fear-mongering narrative promoted by the institutions. And it’s very strange how quick he is to dismiss someone as a “troll” when they ask him to address these incongruities.
-
Alexstrath1Chris is the GOATFrom his Ted talk on human sexuality (highly recommend) to interviews with some of the most interesting people with untold stories, you’re in for a treat.
-
Douggles IIWarning: This podcast could change youI could be too young to confirm this, but it’s possible this podcast has altered my life’s direction, for the better. Chris’s ideas have been in the background of my life for several years, slowly taking me on a path of increased self-discovery & critical thinking about many of the cultural bromides that millions of people take for granted as facts of life. Hopefully I haven’t overstated the value of this podcast. Anyway, think for yourself & question authority.
-
Barry90909090The Tracy Clark-Flory episodeI was excited to listen to this interesting author but was repulsed by Chris Ryan’s creepy questioning. I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that he was masturbating throughout their conversation. This guy is 59 and getting slimier by the day.
-
please talk betterVery talkative!Wow this guy likes to hear himself talk! I liked the messages you played. You voice is not bad. You didn’t say anything profound but its pretty cool that you felt like you did.
-
AcylBeen one of my favorites for years!I find myself saying “I love Christopher Ryan!” often when listening to his podcast or reading his books. He is so smart and cool and funny and down-to-earth. I’ve been listening since he first started Tangentially Speaking, in 2012!

Simpsoni Balogni ponyLove this show!CRP is the man! “Sex at Dawn” changed my life. I’m enthralled by his insights and perspectives. Fun. Brave. Thoughtful! Give a listen today.

Cripled ChrisIf you are looking for an interesting train wreck, look no furtherI was a fan for a couple of years then took a hiatus from the show, and have returned recently. Although I appreciate Chris’ candid nature, it is very revealing of a personality that my not be as wise as it claims. If you are needing an example please refer to Roma #43 where Chris talks about his recently deceased “friend”. In honoring his friend he criticizes his personality and achievements. He then boasts about his own achievements in contrast. After the “memorial” of his friend, he plays an out of touch song that he claims one of his past lovers told him reminded her of his essence......He tells his fans that his apocalypse farm is only for his personal “friends”. Then puts out price points for people to pay for a Skype conversation with him because he values his time.....I urge any frustrated disillusioned youth, or anyone else, to look elsewhere for interesting discussion and outlook. I almost can not believe how a person so traveled and open can be so unwise and dim....

Ameer.FisherGreat PodPlease tell Simon Rex to stop saying the word “Fortuitous”. Thanks.

Joe VDThe Best PodcastDr CPR is an excellent podcast host. His rants sometimes take 30 minutes but are interesting and make me laugh at the fact that he’s been going on for so long. He takes guests to weird places but doesn’t repeat the same conversation topics nearly as often as Rogan does. Definitely my favorite podcast out there
-
heidndusjaisjeushsidjOne of the bestMost of the podcasters I listen to fall into a category of “Balanced human decency in action”. His academic education (he’s earned a doctorate degree in one of the social sciences) coupled with his real world experience of traveling all over the world and hanging out in different societies for stretches of time has propelled his wisdom quotient to a very high level. And all this while maintaining a humility and gratefulness for his well earned position in life. I give him the highest rating possible.
-
PghpowerboaterThe ego, manAs his listenership grows, his confirmation bias grows, as his confirmation bias grows his ego grows, as his ego grows, his certainty grows... you can se where this is going. Go back to the post-modernist enclave from which you have dragged yourself Dr. (Phd) Ryan, stop gloating to your donating listeners that you do not have a job, we know, we used to listen to you at work.
-
AJ BeachMy favorite podcastAlways there when I need you most in my life...
-
LBS301Enough of these Egotists!just stumbled on this guy’s podcast - yet another egotistical guy who no doubt has interesting interviewees - but prefers the sound of his own voice and patting his own back while parading a faux humility. His status is derived from the people he gets to come on his podcast - an inveterate status seeker. Tiresome. There are a lot of others who are doing what we does who are more insightful and cogent in their interviewing of interesting people and a lot less egotistical and in the way.

Fergus CullenHost forgets, Guest is the starGave it a shot for Mr Money Mustache interview. Host talked way too much, forgetting that the guest is the star, and went on tangents about Barcelona and other things. I cut my loss and quit about half way through.

Rosa the crazyMy soon to be X is X ratedUnreal

Darwin FaustCool guests with a great interviewer.Chris has a large variety of guests and always his audience to get good insights into new ways thinking.

FreedomPodcastingThe Authenticity in this Podcast is GreatThanks Chris, you rock.
-
Gregory_CeltsVery Interesting PodcastI’ve learned a lot from Chris, and the guests come from all walks of life. This is one of the best podcasts out there.
-
Slick144Exciting PragmatismI enjoy traveling the world, history, and mind while listening to the podcast. Especially like how he looks at things logically and speaks his mind.
-
old white engineerMy favorite podcastListen to this podcast if you want to hear extremely well reasoned thoughts on the state on the world in general and unconventional ways of navigating towards a meaningful life individually. It’s also flat out entertaining with great interviews and soliloquies. Picture Rogan at his best talking to an intellectual about a meaningful topic (rather than the libertarian, MMA and UFO nonsense).
-
aknight71Thank you for ROMA 38Chris once again gets to the heart of the matter. Many out there seem not to be able to engage in critical thinking at any level. It’s discouraging to see basic health recommendations become “evidence” of a conspiracy to take away our freedoms. We are right to question authority, but we cannot lose our grip on reality.
-
KazielevenIntellectually StimulatingAs an intellectual who has bucked the system it is gratifying to hear Chris espouse the path less taken and to hear from all the other "freaks" he has found on that path. As Michael Franti says, "All the freaky people make the beauty in the world!" On top of that the discussion is fantastic and Chris manages to engage his guests in a way that makes them open and insightul. Even though the subject matter can be quite deep the discussion is always fun. That, for me, is the best part.

pevchmilkAn absolute favorite. This is just such a good podcast. The calm loving demeanor of this man radiates through this podcast into my ear holes and leaves me feeling light and happy. He’s inspired me to live a life that has me feeling complete
