Voyagers of the Jump - An Original Traveller Campaign

156
Games #49

On the frontier of charted space, a ragtag crew of spacefarers gets the chance to start over and fix their lives, but only if they accept a dangerous mission that could avert a war—or start one.

First published in 1977, Traveller is a science fiction RPG in the vein of The Expanse or Battlestar Galactica. Most who played the original game back in the day remember the robust character creation system where if you push too far and get unlucky with the dice, you can die before you even start playing.

Voyagers of the Jump is an original adventure using the 2022 2nd Edition update to the Traveller RPG rules set by Mongoose Publishing.

    Two Great Seasons
I was sick over the holiday and wanted to listen to something new. So, over the last week, I binged the first two seasons. I’ve been a fan of a lot of GCNs work and am a big Traveller fan. I love the spin Matthew and the players put on the game and the setting so much it’s got me thinking about my own Traveller game! The players created unique and engaging characters with just the right amount of backstory to give the adventures context. Their interactions and banter are top notch. Matthew crafted two fantastic stories over the course of both seasons. They were mysterious, intelligent, and fresh. It really shows how you can stretch the game and it’s settings into new directions. Love it, love the cast, and can’t wait for a season three!

    Easily the weakest GCN show
If you're accustomed to the quality of other Glass Cannon Network shows, dial those expectations down for this show. Skid and Sydney are there, and they're brilliant as always, but the rest of the crew are disappointing. Matthew stutters and stumbles his way through his own by-the-numbers Traveller adventures. They're just not interesting. Season 1 has a disappointing deus ex machina "twist" at the end that reminds me of the worst Star Trek TNG episodes. Season 2 is just boring. But worse than that are their other two players. Seth knows Traveller well, but his audio just isn't up to the regular GCN standard, and he is terrible about talking over the other players or drowning them out by laughing at his own jokes. Alicia's audio quality is even worse, and then worse again because of her poor mic discipline, and then worse again because her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. She also seems to have a hard time keeping up with what's going on. I'm sure they're very nice people, and I'm sure they're trying their best, but they're taking what would already be a middling podcast into not-very-good territory. There are better actual-play podcasts out there, including from the Glass Cannon Network. Go listen to those instead.

    Good podcast, but…
This is a great podcast. Sound quality is great just like all other GCN podcasts. My one complaint is that one of the podcast members seems to check out here and there during the podcast and then pop back in somewhat aware of the situation. Makes for a odd listen.

    Ah! Season 2 is here!
Season 1 was epic and a great example of how fun Traveler can be, and so far Season 2 is excellent! Great writing from Matthew, and great content from the cast! Thanks so much all of you!

    Great Sci-Fi Actual Play
Fantastic cast, characters, and story. A must listen part of the GCN catalog.

    Matty Caps in full effect!
I absolutely love the level of role-playing combined with humor in this scenario. And the players really cute Matthew on his toes, that was fun to listen to.

    Really Like This One
Really hope they get Seth back for more stuff in the future. Particularly Traveller! But the whole cast is solid and Matthew writes and tells a great story.

    Great story and cast
What happens when you get a playwright to write and gm a game? One excellent podcast

    Amazing Actual Play for Traveller
Mongoose should totally figure something out to get them to do another Actual Play. The GCN has some of the best audio fidelity of almost all Actual Plays. This is a great cast and Matthew does a great job as Referee. Can’t wait for another season.

    Great cast!
The GM is great and so are all of the players. Alicia Marie has such a great character and I feel like character creation in this rpg system plays to her strengths as a gamer. I am so excited for season 2!

Traveler is so much more than D&D
In Traveler it’s possible for a character to die during creation. If that sounds interesting, give the first episode a try. The character creation mini-game really helps set the stage and tone for the arc. Glass Cannon Network always produces high quality audio and stories. I hope to see lore of GM Matthew in the future.

Probably the Best Science Fiction RPG Podcast I've Ever Listened To
The title of the review says it all. There are groups of episodes in Glass Cannon's other sci/fi series Androids and Aliens that are on par with this but as a complete series this one wins. The Traveler system is so so cool! I do only have one complaint. They went into this with a 10 episode goal and toward the end you can really feel that like a deadline. The ending feels rushed, and the decision to finish things the way the party did, while not out of character, sort of felt like the only one they had available to them. The way the last couple episodes played out kind of made it inevitable, and I feel like if the story had been allowed to play out without the restriction of 10 episodes it would have been better, and probably not too much longer. My 5 star review still stands though, and I only put that minor complaint in there in hopes that it will be considered for season 2. Also Matthew is a superb writer, and I hope he homebrews more for the Network in future. Troy is good at it, but Matthew's a natural and it shows.

This show made me go and buy the Traveller books!
I love sci-fi shows and stories, so I’ve heard of Traveller, but I had never seen it played (except for the new game, who dis episodes where they play High and Dry, also excellent) in an extended campaign like this. This show completely exceeded my expectations, so much so that I had to go and buy myself the core rules right away! The story is fantastic, and the cast really gel together so well, you could feel the fun and excitement they had playing this game. So many laughs, so much excitement, I really hope they do another season soon! Until then, every other Traveller podcast will have some pretty big vac-suit boots to fill.

    Great sci great cast
I really love this system, and what the GCN crew does with it. A lot of fun and more sci-fi tropes than you can shake a stick at.

    What an amazing sci-fi story
Forget the game system (which is great), and the fact that this is an unscripted show (which is amazing!). The GM understands the kinds of themes and motifs that make for a wildly successful sci-fi story. The storytelling here is just phenomenal. And the players are a riot, too!
  • Darkqwerty
    Noir Trek Feel
Great game system, fantastic cast I enjoyed listening to both in session and via banter and loved Mathew as the GM and home-brew story creator. Cannot wait to listen again on the new feed and hoping, waiting praying, come on GCN, for season 2!

The Dirty Dozen meets Star Trek
A hilarious cast of misfits play a hilarious crew of misfits in this surprisingly touching and grounded sci-fi game. Highly recommended!
  • GCN hit!
Traveller and GCN are a great combo
Great show and enjoyable cast. All of the cast members bring different things to the table and go with the rolls even if the rolls are a failure! Matthew crafts a great story that makes you guess until the end.
  • Rex Kodiac
    Good time with Traveller
This is a good podcast to get either acquainted with the Traveller RPG or just enjoy Alicia Marie as an commune leader turned traveller, Seth Skorkowsky as an ex-con, Sydney Amanuel as an ex-spy, Skid Maher as ex-Navy and Matthew Capodicasa as the Referee. The character creation is too funny and the role-playing really gripping. Enjoy!

    Incredible Story and Cast
I love this podcast so much, Matthew wrote an incredible story and the traveller system is so entertaining- I almost want character creation to be the ONLY thing they do! I can’t wait for the next season

Recommended if you’re into or curious about Traveller, or even just a Science Fiction fan.

    Live play Traveler RPG
A funny, story-driven play through of a home brew Traveler campaign. What is Traveler? Massively open world far future RPG where PCs can die during the lengthy character creation process. Definitely its own thing, not like other RPGs. Enjoy!
  • Midevil08

    Best show on GCN
This is literally my favorite on the GCN. Everything they do is amazing but this is top tier. I was so happy to know that it was written by their own, Mr. Capodicasa!
