What About Holly?

766
True Crime #178

It was a January afternoon in 1981 when a man’s German Shepherd came upon a grisly discovery in the woods outside of Houston: the badly decomposed remains of a young man, beaten to death, and a woman, who was strangled. For 40 years, the victims were nameless – until late 2021, when a team of genetic genealogists identified the pair as 21-year-old Harold Dean Clouse and 17-year-old Tina Gail Clouse, a married couple who had moved from Florida to Texas with their infant daughter. But the discovery of the identities only deepened the mystery: who killed the couple and why? And where is their daughter, Holly, who would be 42 years old if alive today? In this multi-part true crime podcast, host Cristina Corbin travels across the country to interview law enforcement and family members, uncover new leads and speak exclusively with a religious cult at the center of this double murder mystery. The first reporter to obtain the entire police case file, including autopsy reports and crime scene photos, Corbin exposes stunning details that move this decades-old case forward.

    Great Podcast, interesting story
Very well done podcast and extremely interesting story. But I have to say, I find “Sister Susan” completely unbelievable.

    I love Cristina Corbin
Cristina Corbin is a phenomenal storyteller. More from her, please!!!

    The narrator
Her voice is so peppy and fake for covering a horrible story. It’s ridiculous. I don’t think I can finish this.

What a great story as well and story telling!
This is a good one. I thoroughly enjoyed this and am constantly in awe that I’ve never heard about these stories these reporters creating podcasts are telling. I liked all the little sound effects and the little stuff she kept in…the background type stuff. I like Christina’s voice which is a bonus and just by her story telling and empathetic nature I can tell she’s doing what she’s meant to do.

    Excellent narration
A very sad and disturbing story. The narrator/journalist did a superb job and I find her interview skills were nothing short of terrific. The interview with the “sister” was rather interesting. I find people who chuckle in between sentences are often deceitful and manipulative. I highly recommend this podcast.

    Fantastic story
I really enjoyed this podcast! You did an excellent job with all the reporting. I’m looking forward to listening to more of your work.

    Truly a Maze!
This story is so full of mystery told very well. I agree , Sister Susan is hiding something. She is a bit delusional. I hope they find the murderer/s.

    Story good - narration nope
The narrators voice irritated me. Story was interesting though Fast forwarded thru some of it because of unnecessary info and couldn't take her fake voice. Almost gave up to just Google what happened

I Just binged this while I was quilting.

    Narrator doesn’t give it justice
I’ve listened to many podcasts and for some reason the narration on here is terrible.

One where the host is overly dramatic and inserts herself constantly
I had to fast forward and then eventually gave up. Why did I do that? What was I thinking? Was my mind racing? Did I get awakened from a dead sleep to answer a call? If you enjoy that style of reporting, where the host is constantly taking her own temperature and hyping up the emotion in an already tragic event, then you will like this. You might also like the dramatic sound effects too. Blergh.

    The voice!
Couldn’t get past the narration even though I was interested in the story 😬

    Birth certificate
Why is no one speaking to the birth certificate being sealed? Ok, so it’s bc Holly was adopted …. If Holly was dropped off at a church it obviously could not have been an anonymous drop. So there may be some validity to at least some of “sister Susan’s” story. How else would the church or authorities know who the baby was to seal her birth certificate?

    What about holly?
I am a over the road truck driver and I love to hear these kind of stories, sadly but very emotional. Even I don’t know any of the people in this story I feel kind of know them somehow and I hope that the perpetrators get caught.

    Very compelling story
Really enjoying this podcast so far. I saw a brief story about it on tv and was glad to find this podcast w/ more info about the couple, their daughter, and this case. Sister Susan seemed very evasive w/ her re-telling of what she says happened with the car and Holly. She claims she never knew or interacted with this couple yet she has all this second hand information about them, a notary, the car, giving up of Holly, etc? I didn’t find her persuasive or compelling. She sounded like she was trying to lessen her culpability in whatever happened. I think she knows a lot more than she’s saying.

    Wow!
What a story. I cannot but believe the cult killed them and gave Holly away. ‘Sister Susan’ is a liar. I do not believe her recalling of the trip back. Keep up the good work. I hope the face to face meeting with Holly and the family went well.

    Compelling story, mediocre narrator
As a story, this is among the most compelling I’ve heard. Unfortunately, it’s suffers from what a lot of similar true crime pods suffer from: the narrator fills the content with too much info about themselves. All too often, we have to sit through how this narrator felt about something, or how tired or overwhelmed he was. As Stephen King says, “it is the story, not (s)he who tells it.” Let the content, and how it makes the ENTIRE audience feel, speak for itself.
  • ThisIsntTetris
Im sure its a interesting story..
Had to turn it off after first episode. I cannot get past the host’ voice. She sounds like shes stuck in a library trying to keep quiet. She is noticeably trying to hard to narrate this story with a weird quiet preppy voice. Speak!!

    Fascinating story
Go back to sister Susan. That’s a manipulative woman. Don’t buy her for a second.
  • l!lly mystery
    Love it😊
It’s so fun how it’s about murder 🔪. I’m going on episode 3. Here’s the thing it has to be about the cult someone from the cult hade to have killed the parents and took the baby for there own.

    Quite enjoyable
All people Involved in the making of this podcast are so professional and at the same time super empathetic. I enjoy Cristina’s voice very much… I was surprised that for such a sad topic which at times made me cry I was hooked for a long binge! Listened to all the 9 episodes in one afternoon!
  • TrueCrimeLover891
    Definitely didn’t need 9 episodes
Decent podcast with a grateful outcome. The narrating is definitely lacking. Too dramatic. And the interviews with some of the non-family members were so scripted.

    Five star
    Cristina Corbin is amazing!

    Sister Susan
I’m passing judgment at this point, sister Susan is a liar she knows more than what she is saying. Great show!!!

This is very well done. I’m listening to “sister Susan”. Ugh. I don’t believe a word she says. Her and this brother/sister garbage. She’s apologizing for all the evil deeds. I wouldn’t turn my back on her!! Great podcast!!

    Uplifting Ending
A tragedy with some hope at the end. Told by the families involved. Amazing what genetic genealogy can do. Well told. I will look out for more of these. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting but all the phone ringing affects are super annoying
The content is interesting so far (I’m on ep 5). I have 2 major issues tho. The first is that it felt exploitive of the mother of the murdered man. Recording her in her most vulnerable moments of grief were kind of cheap. Secondly, the narrator/host uses incredibly annoying phone sound affects every time she makes a phone call. I get that she’s trying to make a point that she’s making a call. But the sounds are loud and shrill. There are better ways. I hate them so much it makes me consider not listening.

    Great Job!!
Great job Cristina! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
  • Baseballradioguy
    Horrible storytelling
The sound effects are just awful. An officer talks about how in those days, they didn't have cell phones (cell phone chime and sound of a message being sent), and you had to go out and knock on doors (sound of someone knocking on a door). I have no idea who thought this was a good idea, or why they would think that. The narrator also tries waaaaay too hard to paint scenes by using a thesaurus and describing every blade of grass. It's not descriptive; it's just someone who can't tell a story.

This is amazing. I hope you can.
  • AlohAlaska
    Ok, what?!
just finished ep.5 and I have to wonder how the F did the entire two families not for 40 years go and investigate anything about what had happened to their family members and here’s this journalist about to answer all these questions 4 decades later… I mean, wow- that’s amazing- yes, I feel sympathy but I also can’t fathom how no one else of actual relation could have done what this chic did. She’s not a saint, just looking for a good story… And Found It.
  • ivey76
Kept me listening, from one episode to the next.
I think Cristina did a Phenomenal job telling Dean, Tina and Holly’s story. I never felt like she sensationalized this story, just told the truth, with her own heart on her sleeve. I’ve watched this unfold, and was relieved to hear they found Holly. I felt a kinship, being Holly Maria, in Oklahoma.

Love it but read this before you Listen
So don’t listen when you’re young it might scare you so it’s good to listen but be older like 12 years old I like it . Nice to listen 🎧

    Heartfelt
Telling the story of the lives of people is a gift, when done well, given to others. It is crazy how some reviewers have no patience with this process. Well done to all involved. If you want the story in an hour there is Dateline😐

    Very captivating
The interviews are a good length. Keeps you interested

I love the low key narrative
I liked the story, I liked the family interaction with the narrator. I will listen to the next case

Must listen! Prepare to get sucked in
Loved how this podcast was done and the voice/dictation of Cristina. So easy to get lost in the story with her voice! Curl up with a blanket or pop this on in the car or while you clean…and the time will fly

    Enjoyable podcast
It’s a pretty good podcast, not the best I’ve ever heard but still enjoyable. The narration is pretty low quality though.
  • Teresa 103
    Eh, lots of boring filler.
This could have been an hour episode. They tried too hard to fluff it up with information that wasn’t really pertinent to the story. I skipped a lot to get to point on many episodes.
  • HollandH1975
    Terrible reader/ podcaster
The story seems compelling but the breathless, contrived voice is awful.
  • Wuzzupbiotch
    Incredible story! Superbly told!
Loved this podcast!!! The format and style is a combination of meticulous investigative reporting and a heart-pounding narration (bonus that this true crime podcast host’s voice is great to listen to too!)
  • SLDay04
Starts off promising but no ending
Great concept but story didn’t resolve and host didn’t do a good job at wrapping up the series. Don’t waste your time.
  • Cassparagus
    Outstanding
Cristina, what an absolutely outstanding job you did covering this story with respect and empathy for the families involved. I look forward to updates in the story and any other stories you might cover. Bravo.

    Great
I love the narrators voice , and how she has interviewed people. Her soft voice makes me comfortable and relaxed. Also, the story is great and interesting.

    Great podcast
Could’ve been done in three episodes instead of nine short ones
