KILLED

1,414

For every story that runs, countless others are killed before anyone gets the chance to read them. KILLED reveals the true stories behind reporting that was once considered too dangerous, too fringe, too…SOMETHING…by the media. With help from some of the biggest names in magazines, Justine Harman brings dead stories back to life.

    Great Listen
I’ve listened to all the Audio Chuck podcasts and this is my favorite! Great idea for a podcast. Interesting to hear the perspective of all these writers/journalists and the stories behind what gets killed and why. Sometimes boring (new editor, etc.) sometimes sinister reasons. Pretty surprised by some of the bad reviews I guess just goes to show everyone is different. A winner for me!

    Very good…but that song…..ugh
Love the variety of stories, but that opera type song that plays is awful.

    A Paradox
This podcast paradoxically lives up to its theme: stories that were killed, which in many cases, stories with flaws, making them less interesting, a description made manifest by the reviewers who complain of less than interesting episodes. In logic it woul be circular reasoning.

I enjoy the host and the format, but the content is not interesting

    What’s the point?
I listened to season 1 and thought it was very interesting. So my wife and I were on a road trip and ran out of Dateline, so put on the Killed season 2 episode about the Mormon missionaries. A half hour of repeatedly describing what they looked like, the journalist whose voice and mannerisms were so stilted and the story went…nowhere. That’s it…a story was killed but the journalist got a better story tip from it…either describe the original story better, delve into the new story, or put the author on 1 1/2 faster speed…it was so painful and boring.

    Well Done
This is a solid podcast. I’m a tough critic who is hard to please, but the approach with the story kept me tuned in every second

    Not an accurate title
I couldn’t even finish the first season because the stories annoyed me so much. Like this is a cool podcasts if you like listening to stories that have already been in the media and many people already know about but in NO way are these stories that have been killed and covered up. Misleading title and misleading trailer tbh. When it premiered it seemed exciting because it was advertised that this show would be “uncovering” buried stories. But in reality, this show is just about stories that editors/publishers didn’t want to publish because they didn’t want to get their hands dirty but the writers just took to a different publication. So ALL of these stories are out in the public and are not at all relevant anymore. It should be called… “Almost Killed” or something. Because it was literally never dead.

    Good, not great.
I love listening to most podcasts brought to us by AudioChuck, however this one is a little let down. I heard the advertisement for Killed in all the other podcasts I listen to ( crime junkie, counterclock, the deck ) and I was expecting a little bit more. It’s not horrible by any means and the host is very easy on the ears but the storyline just isn’t very enticing enough to want to continue. It is put together wonderfully but it’s not personally my thing!
  • boy you're
IMO is the only thing I can think about that you are
Him too I think he’s a good man but I don’t know if he’s not doing anything for me but he wants me too much and I need him and he will have a lot to go

    Misleading
I thought I was going to listen to something super interesting that “for some reason wasn’t told before” but there is no story a all.

    My new favorite podcast
This podcast is so interesting, definitely my new favorite and a nice break from the dark true crime I typically listen to.
  • Awesome 🙆🙆🙆
    Boring stories
I kept waiting for them to be interesting and then I would get to the end and realize that I had completely missed the “climax” of the story because there never was one lol Terrible. Don’t recommend. The stories are killed for legitimate reasons like they weren’t interesting enough. there’s no conspiracy like the trailer leads you to believe

    Lost & bored
Most of the stories didn't keep my attention.

    Fantastic !
This is such an interesting premise - I WOULD listen to these all day- please make a lot more! I know that sounds greedy but this is just a great topic spectrum! Thank you for all the wonderful works though-!

The stories behind the (killed) stories.
This podcast features a beautiful blend of passion, industry gossip, mystery, intrigue and hard-earned insight. As anyone with a few major failings under my belt, my heart breaks as I relate to each writer as they grapple with the fallout of every killed story. Hearing the gems of wisdom gained with each journalists disappointment is so rewarding as a listener. It’s unfortunate that history is written by the winners, because these unpublished stories are so much more colorful.

    I like this podcast
This podcast gives me a nice break from all the true crime I listen to. Sometimes those get a bit heavy. I find the content interesting and Justine is good at what she does. But why are there ads for Killed built into the show lol. I’m already listening to the podcast, I don’t need an ad for it while I’m listening to it lol. They may not control that, which I understand. Overall, I like the show!

    Way Too Many Ads
The content -vs- Ad content is not worth it.

    What’s the problem?
I came to several of these with great interest, but the audio is so tinny and the narrative is so manic that I gave up within 15 minutes.
  • Phna15
    Disappointed
Season 2 is nowhere near Season 1. The reason for most of the stories that were killed were because they weren’t interesting. I kept waiting for the conspiracy reason for the kill and nothing. Fortunately the episodes are short but I would skip Season 2.

Not a great podcast, stories are boring.

    Blase’
LOVE Audiochuck… but, I can pass on this. I’ve binged basically everything Audiochuck… this one I can pass on. It’s hard to follow and doesn’t keep my attention. Blase’ at best.

Eh… if there’s nothing else to listen to
It’s just ok. Lots of commercials. The stories inconsistent. Some are good, some very boring. Lots of commercials.

    Good podcast
Really enjoy your podcast. I’m looking forward to hear how the Hunter Biden laptop story was killed right before the presidential election.
  • MorganGonz
    Boring
I love you Audiochuck but this one is a dud. XOXO

    👍🏽
Interesting stories! How about Epstein and Hunter Biden stories that have been killed??
  • ReasonableDad
    Not Audiochuck’s best work
One or two episodes are legitimate claims of corruption or conspiracy behind the scenes where the writer is an innocent victim, but most of the rest are just bad stories that deserved to be killed and you represent the writer’s sour grapes. Liberal whine fest. Chuck peed in his crate.

    Ok but
    Too many ads

    Narrator’s Voice Offputting
There seems to be a trend for narrators to speak in a robotic, quickly paced style. It sounds very artificial and distracts from the story
  • KateJessie
    Disturbing and spectacular
This podcast gives you an inside view of publishing and the nasty under belly of it. These journalists who persevered are heroes. I cannot say enough positive about this podcast. If you don’t like it, you don’t get it.
  • Hi6mTurtle
    Refreshing!
It’s nice to hear about the corruption that happens in the name of “journalism”. I’ve known for years that legacy media is very one-sided in their reporting, but this is amazingly refreshing to be given the stories and facts of what happened behind the scenes. The low ratings are by the people trying to control the narrative! It’s so obvious. Keep up the good work!
  • Mkellerdds
    Killed
Amazing podcast. Shocked about the stories about journalist doing their job to corruption or bad acts by celebrities or people in power, to only all their hours of work killed by their publishers. Why?! It is shocking to find that lack of moral compasses by these businesses that is journalism.

    AUDIO CHUCK OR BUST
All of audio chucks podcasts are 10/10! For me It started with Crime Junkie, then Anatomy of Murder, The Deck/The Deck Investigates, and now I’ve found this piece of gold!!!! Amazed at the work audio chuck is doing for victims and their families
  • bam526
    sleazy
The premise is flawed — there are plenty of reasons stories are killed and diluted, but Harman tends to examine them from one perspective and fill in the rest with her own conjecture and opinions. Hard to make an airtight case for conspiracy when you rely so heavily on only a few either very biased (i.e., the writer) or distant (fact checkers? Gimme a break) sources.

    Not worth listening to
I was mildly entertained by the first few episodes of season two, then they had one on gay porn. I made it 6 minutes in before I turned it off, and unfollowed. This is not the type of content that I want to listen to and I don’t think it’s helpful to people. Lots of better podcast out there.
  • Tg8200
    Surprisingly captivating!
It takes a lot for me to get really excited about a podcast but this one has really drawn me in. The host is great. The stories are fascinating. I hope this podcast continues for a long time to come!

    Could be great
    But the narrator ruins it

    Thought I’d try something new
I typically only listen to True Crime but thought I’d try this out after listening to Ashley Flowers advertising on her other podcast. I was really captivated and definitely hope there is more to come!

    This is great!
I’m really enjoying this podcast and have a much better appreciation for journalists with integrity and how much they go through. It’s their art and I appreciate it.

    Airplane Voice
Interesting stories. I don’t agree that the podcast is bringing the stories back to life though. They already broke after being shelved. I don’t know what is going on with the hosts microphone, but her voice has that airplane quality. The podcast could benefit from different equipment.

    Favorite podcast of the year
I think this has been my favorite podcast of 2022. It’s intelligent, informative, intriguing, and to the point. And it makes me want to learn more about each of these stories. Also, Justine is a great host. 10/10.
  • jamihvs
    Well played!
Coming from a podcast fan that has literally no first hand knowledge of journalism, but enjoys impassioned writing, this is an excellent series to impart knowledge and delight an audience. The stories range widely, so there’s something for everyone, but the tone and the storytelling are what anyone following audiochuck has come to expect. Well done and I am excited for season two.
  • poke_ster
    Intriguing
I love hearing the stories behind the stories, from the journalists who experienced the highs and lows of writing major pieces that almost weren’t. The host is great.
  • KayGee2011
    Interesting
I really enjoyed the different stories. Not all we’re true crime related but all of these stories were interesting. 10/10 recommend!
  • rickdoss
    The idea is brilliant
The production and host is another matter.
