Upland Rookie is a great podcast for people who are new to owning a bird dog. You’ll learning from many professionals and how they choose to train. It’s very thought provoking and opened many doors for finding information on gear, food, and techniques. Keep up the good work!

Even though my interest and normal practice involves retrievers and waterfowl hunting, this podcast always has training knowledge that I benefit and learn from…one day I will have my own pointing dog and this podcast will help me train her.

I thoroughly enjoy this podcast for the simple fact that the quality of the audio is enjoyable to listen to and the quality of content being captured. I can’t stand listening to a podcast that’s got a cool guest, but painful audio to endure. Well done producing an enjoyable experience and going after valuable content! I’m a novice upland hunter with a 1 yr old flusher picking up all sorts of nuggets of valuable tips. Thanks for what you do.

As a new bird dog owner I find this podcast to be extremely helpful. Love the variety of guest and that the conversations aren’t a lecture but a back and forth. I find my questions are being answered throughout the episodes.

I first started listening to this podcast awhile back after randomly stumbling onto it. As someone who always wanted a pointing dog, but never thought I’d be able to have one for various reasons, I still really enjoyed living vicariously through the podcast. Fast forward to the 2022 bird season when I had a ton of opportunity I missed due to not having a dog. I reached out to Will and asked about getting a GSP. He was very helpful and encouraging when chatting with me about getting a dog. I explained my wants/needs in a dog and he recommended I look at Brittanys. I did and I was sold! He was even nice enough to put me in touch with a very reputable breeder/trainer and 2 months later I was on a plane to pick up a 9 month old started Brittany. Now that I have the dog I enjoy this show in a whole new way and find myself invested in the topics even more. Absolutely love the upland rookie podcast, the show does a beautiful job of interviewing and getting some of the best guests in the Upland seen today. I specifically love the interviews with the field trial specialists as well as the dog trainers. Great content keep up the good work.

Will and his guests’ take on sharing their stories make the sport of trialing and upland hunting way more approachable than picking up any published magazine I’ve ever read. They share their success and also don’t shy away from things they learned from or didn’t do well. This is the first podcast that has kept me away from JRE for an extended period of time! I’m a first year field trailer and first year bird hunter. The show has amazing width and breadth pertaining the bird dog world. The show is well produced and not inundated with advertisements like other shows are. The only complaint I have is that there isn’t a show everyday for me to listen to! I listen to a lot of bird hunting podcasts and this one sounded interesting. I started listening and quickly realized I could learn some new things from the guests. I am a former wildlife biologist and very experienced upland bird hunter and have hunted many species in many different states. Yet I still found this podcast to be at least entertaining, helps ‘put me in the field’ mentally and, as mentioned, has even provided some nuggets of wisdom. Thank you!

Love listening to this podcast. It gets me bumped to get out my dogs. I am self training my dogs and have come to hiccups. I recently started upland hunting and picked up my first Brittany about a year and half ago. This podcast is a great way to help rookies like myself become more confident in the sport!

Not a new bird hunter, but just got my first bird dog (Brittany). This will be her first year and I’ve been nervous. This podcast has really helped motivate me to get over my hesitation to travel to get on some birds. Awesome content! I live in north Texas and driving is really the only way to get into wild birds. Thanks for putting this podcast together. It was the exact thing I was looking for.

I recently started listening to this podcast and it has been by far amazing it really has inspired me to load up my gsp and travel all over the us Listening from Deep South Texas hoping one day I can take my gsp up to Colorado North Dakota Kansas all those great places you talk about to get us some great upland birds!!!

Who’s is this flippant guest? I go to the hills to get away from people of this level of arrogance. I’m sure he has a great Instagram account though!

This podcast is just overall great to listen to. Even if you don’t plan on hunting upland birds and just want to find something interesting to listen to. Wish I had this when I first got my Brittany just so I could get an idea of what to do and people to follow for a wealth of knowledge I wouldn’t be able to get without this podcast. Will continue to listen to this daily!

All hunting podcasts have challenges in ensuring that they can cater to the nationwide audience. I focus on the Midwest pheasant and grouse episodes. The recents one (s) with Scott K. was very good. It’s people like Scott who set the tone for the development of our next generation of hunters/conservationists. It was motivation for me to reach out more.

This is my fifth season upland hunting so I’m always trying to learn something new. I recently got to listened to Will Larsen on the Birdshot podcast. Since then I’ve been binge listening to all the UplandRookie podcast episodes. Not only I’ve learn so much from the variety of guests on the show. Will’s personality and his passion for the uplands is really entertaining. Thank you!

I subscribe to many podcasts and really like one. Will is humble, warm and curious about everything in the upland world. He engages with his guests in a way that draws you in and keeps your attention. He is not afraid to go big; extending the length of the episodes and touching on topics that could be controversial, but need to be discussed. The upland community is growing fast, which is great, because American wild places are under pressure from all points of the compass. A large, inclusive and engaged upland community is the best hope for the future of our way of life. Podcasts like this one develop a shared awareness and community. Will, thanks for leading from the front.

Will does an amazing job of asking the right questions to some really knowledgeable guests. It has been amazing to listen and learn about all things bird dog, hunting, trials and tests. He also does a very professional job editing to keep the audio as consistent as possible.

This show is great, the host finds many different style of hunters with all kinds of dog breeds to provide valuable insight into a variety of hunting scenarios. No two episodes are the same and each show doesn’t follow any kind of specific standard as to format. This allows the host and guests statements to flow freely and sound more human than some other types of podcasts. the hosts speaking flows naturally and it often times reminds me of a interesting conversation you hear in public that you can’t stop your self from eavesdropping. The host provides an adequate amount of content meaning you usually don’t have to wait long for the next episode. Throw all these reasons in a hat mixed with the fact that the podcast is free, and it’s hard to rate it anything but 5 stars.

This podcast has been hands down one of the best out there! Period. It’s been refreshing to hear the level of excitement and knowledge from Will who has been at this just 4 or 5 years. He’s more knowledgeable than he thinks. Love the content and the guest selection AND THE AUDIO QUALITY IS TOP NOTCH! WELL DONE AND KEEP IT UP BUD!

As an upland rookie going in to my second season with my GSP this has been a great resource. Getting a lot out of the interviews and a lot of laughs out of the tailgate shows! Keep it man!

I have recently started listening to all kinds of podcasts while at work and upland hunting/dogs are the majority of my listening. This podcast has followed my journey of beginning my upland life so well and has helped me with so many things with my dogs and gear! Definitely worth a listen if you enjoy the uplands!

My boyfriend and I have a 11 month old Brittany. We’re very new to the upland hunting world, and this podcast has been so fun and informative to listen to together! We absolutely love it.

I want to say thank you for putting together such great content and encouragement. I grew up hunting deer, rabbit, and squirrel in the Ozarks but my longing since I was a child and heard the stories of my grandpa who grew up in Illinois was to be an upland hunter. We farmed and my grandpa always had an eye for conservation. He would take me out and let me hear the Bobwhite and for a time in my early childhood he had a Brittany. I now live in Northern Missouri and this year I purchased my first American Brittany, Titan. I enjoy this podcast most of all because of the brotherhood that surrounds it. It truly does create a welcoming atmosphere for those of us who are just starting out and learning the ropes. Thank you for your work and effort for us rookies.
