No two adoption stories are the same. In a mindful way, Jennifer explores the many nuances of adoption. She allows her guests to fully share their thoughts and feelings as she encourages them along the way. Jennifer’s thoughtful questions gives a safe space for adoptees to be vulnerable, open and honest. This is an important collection of stories.

First of all, Jennifer makes you feel so at home with her angelic voice and soothing presence. She took the time to learn about me ahead of time to help me feel at ease. She's was genuinely interested in my story and so empathetic with my trauma. Honored to have been a small part of spreading the important collective narratives we adoptees share.

    Uplifting the stories of adoptees.
For decades the narrative of adoption has been set by adoption agencies and adoptive parents. This has led to a rainbows and unicorns view of adoption that just isn’t true. Adoption is full of paradox. It is built on grief and trauma. Yes there is often love and healing which can occur. Yet the over focus on the positive while downplaying the difficulty and pain has caused much harm to adoptive people. Jennifer does a beautiful job of creating a atmosphere for adoptees to share their truth. Her gentle, open and thoughtful nature creates an environment of safety. She asks questions to get to the heart of the experience if each individual. If you are and adoptee who feels alone and would feel comforted by knowing there are other people who have shared parts of your experience, this is the place to come. If you are an adoptive parent, foster parent, relative, social worker or ally of an adoptee, this is the place to learn, and grow your ability to understand and empathize with the adoptive experience.

A deeply meaningful podcast about adoption that reflects that host’s immense caring.
One of the many things that defines this podcast is deep caring. Jennifer is a truly empathetic voice in the adoptee space, and her many gifts shine for all in Once Upon a Time … in Adopteeland. She asks excellent questions, listens attentively, and is thoughtful with her responses. She models a maturity and awareness that comes from decades of looking at and understanding her own adoption experiences, and is generous in lifting up and encouraging others — inspiring others to do the same. Each time I listen to the show, I find myself either smiling from ear to ear or teared up with emotion after having my soul touched. Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing your beautiful self and your powerful podcast with the world. It’s a better place with you and Once Upon a Time … in Adopteeland in it!

    Episode 114 Catie Samantha Peck
This episode is beautiful. It also ripped me open. I am 65 years old and was forced to give up my baby at age 18 through the LDS church. My parents sent me away to do this on my own, with strangers. My siblings were not even told and I was so shamed and believed I was bad to the core, I never spoke of it for 30 years. I couldn’t even say the words, much less look anyone in the eye to tell them what I had done. I was a bad person. I have worked on those lies I told myself for about 20 years now- they still hurt even though I know they are lies. When she turned 30, I spoke about it, we hired an agency, Given Right, to find her. They scammed us. Took out $, told us her name, that she had a horrible life and she wanted nothing to do with me. That validated everything I believed about myself. 10 years later a woman contacted me about finding her birth family - she had a DNA match with my 1st cousin. Her name was Wendy, not Yvonne - I was so confused and so scared. How awful an agency that advertised as being owned by birth mothers and adoptees could be so cruel. Caties story resonated so deeply with me, and also hurts my heart that I have yet to connect so deeply with my daughter. I am being patient with the situation and allowing her to control it. Thank you for doing this podcast. For your raw and transparent honesty. I have an adopted granddaughter- and it is eye opening for me to see and experience the complicated issue of adoption from both sides. We must somehow learn to do better. Thank you so much. I can’t wait to listen to other experiences.
