Just found the podcast today I’ve already listened to five episodes. I’m obsessed.

A correction is in order. As a binging listener via FANTI, episode 46 was without a doubt 2023’s ep of the year as it had my head bobbing up & down in agreement the entire time. Not to mention when Sesali went in on BET! Absolutely a chef’s kiss. (Uncle) AHTHA

I started listening about two months ago, from FANTI. As a fellow Chicagoan, when I heard Sesali on FANTI, I instantly knew it was Chicago in my ears talking about music and the culture! Love the discourse and it’s so necessary to have!

This show is everything I didn’t know I needed!!! I feel like I’m catching up with friends when I listen to these two. This is what the culture needs.

Review albums they admit they never finished but fully have an episode trying to analyze and summarize without the actual experience of having listened to the whole thing. Garbage

Why do I feel like I’m at the kitchen table eatin’ fish and talkin’ ish’ with my good cousins?! The moment I heard the kids guest spot on FANTI I was down. I’m late to the game but I’m here to listen, laugh, and learn.

When I tell you I’m so happy they started doing weekly shows!!! Both funny as ever. Every episode is entertaining and informative. I enjoy that the whole focus is on the girls and the gays that rap from 2 rap pioneers!!! Keep em coming!

Both hosts are very knowledgeable about the topics they present and make talking about the rap gworls fun! buuuut Sesali tends to cut off Pierre a lot, which kinda makes it difficult to fully enjoy the episode. I would love to hear more of Pierre’s perspective, uninterrupted. Besides that, great podcast excited to see where this show goes from here.

I first discovered these two while listening to the Fanti Podcast. After listened to one of their episodes, I have been hooked! Pierre and Sesali’s have great chemistry and keep me cracking up the whole episode. While also giving insightful commentary. I am now a dedicated listener. Keep up the great job guys!

I’ve been following Sesali since I read Bad Fat Black Girl in 2022 and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I had never read anything that made me feel so seen. So when I saw she had a podcast I knew I had to tune in. Sesali and Pierre make my whole day when i listen to their podcast. I look forward every time they drop. I have a whole playlist featuring songs from the artists they interview called Purse First. LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST!!

I have known about this show for a bit and love their TikToks on their rappers and what kind girls like them. I’ve been listening to only the rap girlies and gays for the last two years and this is exactly what I need! I love to talk music! What makes it’s A+++ is the fact that we grew up in the same city. Chicago breeed the best and the brightest on all levels. Can’t wait to listen to more. I’m hooked two episodes in.

I listen to this podcast as soon as it comes out and even saved my little coins to become a patreon subscriber. Sesali and Pierre give such an interesting take into the music industry, history and culture. However they so in a way that is not heavy handed analysis but very funny and personal. They have great chemistry together and the podcast is enjoyable to listen to. Definitely one of my favorite podcasts!

I went from being a BFG reader to a Purse First listener and couldn’t be happier. 4 seasons I’m and I’m still hooked. I feel like I’m the studio with them. Always leaves me on the edge of my seat wanting more!!

Perfect niche podcasts. I legit miss them when they arent doing episodes. They have GOOD, creative quality conversations about women and gays in rap. I legit WISH I could be a cohost, I be talking to them in my kitchen as if I am one. Its positive, honest, and they add alot of history, expertise and industry insight I didnt know. Love seeing people from the crib do dope things!

If you love female rap this show is for you! Not only do they know what they are talking about but they are also hilarious and unbiased and give the girls and gays a platform! 👏🏿🦄

Many shows/podcasts cover music, none do it like Purse First! The chemistry is amazing, the interviews are insightful and fun and the RECOMMENDATIONS!? I’ve been put on to so many phenomenal artists through this show. Highly, HIGHLY recommend! Love this show down!

I absolutely love this podcast. It literally feels like a KiKi with my homegirls. We get the tea and critique at the beginning and then the interviews. Episode 4 holds the keys to the kingdom. Go listen nowwe!

First off, I’m a long time fan of the Freaky Boiz music and Sesali’s writing so this combo of Pierre and Sesali is right up my alley! These two contributors+critics of the culture do not disappoint! They are giving us all coverage of femme hip hop without the fluff and the misogyny! And they are from Chicago which is a point of view we don’t hear often enough.

Purse First is a thrilling take on pop culture and everything in between. I love listening in between work breaks or with a glass of cognac in the evenings because I feel like I’m listening to family members that hang out after the rest of the regular guests leave (when you can say and do whatever you’ve been holding in all night). Y’all know what I’m talking about. Seriously, time in! I look forward to being an official baddie amongst the “Purse First” family.

I really love the energy Pierre and Sesali exude during this podcast. You can tell that they really vibe and it makes for very enjoyable listening. They are hilarious (especially when Nicki is a topic of discussion) and you can't beat them focusing on femme rap. Definitely one of my favorite podcasts out right now!

For the culture!!! The gworls are winning in rap right now and Purse First is really documenting and dissecting this moment and history! Period!

I absolutely love Purse First! Despite the fact that femme Black rappers are absolutely dominating the industry, Purse First is the only podcast to focus solely on their work. Sesali and Pierre are hilarious and unafraid to be critical of their faves. I love that they speak with up-and-coming artists to well-known names and other people making their mark on femme rap culture. I’m so excited to see who will be on the show next!
