Came for the maths; stayed for the friendship
I’ve listened to every episode of this podcast, and I love it so much. Matt & Bec always make me feel cozy and curious, like hanging out with hilarious nerdy friends. Highly recommend, no matter your mathematical inclination or lack thereof, because these two are just such an entertaining pair!

This podcast is the best. There is nothing much more to say, it has humor, it has maths, and best of all is has maths parker and any-other-becness hill. Just best.

    Following the podcast bread crumbs
Found this podcast following the podcast tree from Office Ladies. As a crafty math person, this show speaks to my soul! Learning and laughing a lot <3!

    best hosts!
Some would argue that bec was the best for the fun personality while others would argue that Matt Parker is the best for the like unique way he likes solves problems so I think that's pretty cool but I think they're both great. I listen to another podcast where there's like characters that makes voices so that's cool too, but my dad listens to A Podcast Of Unnecessary Detail and matt Parker is also one of the other hosts so that's pretty cool too so thanks guys!🧠👅🫵🏻👵🏻🥰🥰😍😘😝

    A delightful little (medium?) podcast
While I am admittedly one of the many people that came for the Matt and stayed for the Bec, I really enjoy the little dynamic they have with a good mix of whimsical fun and fascinating math topics - and both of those things really end up being provided by both people. You may also note by my use of ‘math’ that I am an American, so this podcast really is enjoyable all over the world (even if some of the pop culture references are a bit lost on me at first). I have been listening since around (I think) 2022, but I’m just now getting around to listening in order from the very start (I’m on 026 right now). This only proves that it has been and continues to be a very quaint, varied, and overall enjoyable show. Thank you guys for making it!

    Maths!
I love the creative ways that Matt Parker Matt-thematizes problems with no obvious math in them, and Bec’s humor and creativity can take APS in such fun directions!

    Excellent podcast
I always enjoy the combination of math, practical solutions, and silliness.

It’s no fish, but that doesn’t matter
I heard beck on the latest episode of No Such Thing As A Fish. And honestly in that episode, she was the funniest one. But these five stars are for you. Fish don’t feel bad. You area still my go to

    So Much Fun!
Turns out it’s a tad bit educational and very funny as well! Love the dialogue between Matt and Bec, and their Aussie/Brit perspective on the world.

    Dinging your problems away!
A Problem Squared sees beloved mathematics comedian Matt Parker (of Parker Square fame) join forces with science musician Bec Hill (no “x”) to solve problems both mundane and obscure, ranging from the abstract to the concrete, but always with a sense of humor and a heart towards non-mathematicians (but there’s still a lot for mathematicians like myself to enjoy). Shame I can’t give it 6 stars~!

    Ding!
I got in late but binged through every episode to catch up! An absolutely spectacular podcast that does a great job of answering every problem you didn’t know you needed answering!

    Makes Me Smile Every Time
I look forward to this podcast every two weeks. The hosts are really funny and tell jokes in such a wholesome way. They are really responsive to their listeners (no pun intended) and make all 50 minutes a joy. Thank you Matt and Bec for making this podcast!

Funny and interesting. The hosts are international treasures.
Bec and Matt make each other laugh and we get to listen in. One of the few podcasts I listen to as soon as it's released without even reading the précis. Reliably smart and entertaining and cheerful.

    The Podcast I Needed
Are you tired of podcasts that just create a lot of problems for you? Are you feeling a bit sad or, perhaps, lacking humor? Well, this podcast is just what you need. For the low low price of $0 (although patreon is available if you call now!), you can have your problem solved in a thoughtful, insightful, and hilarious way by Bec Hill and Matt Parker. I’m very glad I found this podcast, and I think you’ll agree that it’s well worth the listen. Oh, before I forget, is this your card?
  • FilmEfilmEfilm
May all your problems be squared.
How do you make this show better? Some people think this show needs more Bec Hill and less Matt Parker, others think that more Matt Parker and less Bec Hill is the solution, but the real solution is more of both. Can we cram more Bec Hill and more Matt Parker into ever square inch or even better ever square cm of the surface area of this show? Can we stack more of each host into a show of the same circumference? Can we boil these hosts down and make a concentrate that we can spread on toast? Can we clone an infinite number of Bec Hills and Matt Parkers on an infinite number of planets with higher gravity than earth so that we end up with a show containing an infinite number of hosts each more dense than the current hosts?

    Entertaining and educational
I really enjoy this podcast. It makes me laugh and I learn things!

    Listen to this podcast!
Love A Problem Squared! Thanks to Matt and Bec for entertaining and educating in equal measure.

It’s like catching up with old mates
Matt and Bec are very likable on their own but together they become a problem solving team the likes of which we haven’t seen since the action shows of the 1980’s. They solve problems submitted by their listeners and crack jokes. Casual yet polished. Down to earth and nerdy. I never miss an episode. My favorite parts are when they banter and get sidetracked and tell anecdotes. Of course, the solutions are fun, too.

You won’t regret ad-DING this to your listening schedule
If you like hearing other people’s problems and solutions to those problems (provided by two sometimes under-qualified individuals) which vary in the amount of research and informational value but never in entertainment and you don’t know where to look, then do I have a show for you. Sorry for the convulated review, I really pulled a Matt Parker with this one. Let’s try it Bec Hill style: This podcast is fun, educational and provides some great laughs

    Absolutely Delightful
Binged the entire show in 2 weeks. What a delight! The world needs more of Matt and Bec, and you do, too!

Are you seriously going to consume fart pills?
Bec, if you’re seriously considering consuming a pill that has not been produced under the auspices of the FDA, or its analogous European regulatory agency, there is a crack dealer working near the train station here, who assures me that he has won TWO gold medals for invention, and who can make you some pills GUARANTEED to make your farts smell like Chanel no 5, your breath smell like peppermint, and your armpits smell like frankincense and myrrh. He says he will compound twice as many pills for half the price and guarantees they will contain absolutely no arsenic! He also says he has a line on some African diamonds and will pay you a 50% commission if you will sell them for him, all you need to do is forward him a small handling fee so he can ship them to you. Are you interested in trying THESE fart pills?

Genuinely a delight and a joy
I was turned onto this podcast just recently, and it's lovely - the cohosts are kind and nice and funny, the editing is tight but feels natural, and the whole thing is suffused with cool facts and fun personal stories. It's a lovely thing to listen to while relaxing.

Heartwarming and wholesome math and humor
The center of a Venn diagram of funny, friendship, compassion, art, math, puns, curiosity, and joy. The banter and camaraderie of Bec and Matt bring the listener into their circle of friendship and make them feel welcome. This isn’t a podcast of information told to the listener, but rather a conversation that includes the listener who just can’t get a word in edgewise, because Matt and Bec just keep talking. One of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to.

Great fun! Changed my life! (dental hygiene wise)
Great funny hosts. I love them both. They solve problems that probably don’t need solving. But I’ve learned a lot of fun stuff along the way. And it might just change your life. I learned that I shouldn’t be brushing my teeth for 12-15min.

    Skyrocketing pudding squared
At 9 Kpd, Pudding the rat would probably get sucked into the sun b4 it got away. Is Pudding starting at the Sun? Or on Earth? Or from the hamster colony on Ganymede? If earth, is the destination the closest point of exit? Or on the other side of the sun. Is the earth at its apogee? Will gravity play a role in affecting Puddin’s trajectory? Or is it a straight shot? Just askin’

    Happiest surprise I’ve stepped into
Unlike complex numbers these two are not imaginary friends, they are the real deal! If you are rational at all you will find their banter entertaining and the topics fascinating. I’m never divided on what to listen to when a new episode comes out, this is my top choice.

    Freaking love this show
Not sure how to calculate how many bits of information each episode will give you, but i’m sure it’s a lot.

    Entertaining and informative
If you’re at all interested in science, math or problem solving, be sure to give this a listen. Bec Hill and Matt Parker are delightful, tackling questions with humor, enthusiasm and skill. I’m always excited to hear the newest episode!

    Best podcast out there
I found this podcast because of Matt, but have really enjoyed Bec. Problem squared is one of my favorites, every time a new one comes out i must stop listening to other podcasts and start this one. I have become a patreon supporter so we can get more than one a month. thanks to both of you, don’t ever stop making this show.

Mathematically proven to be a great use of your time. Many questions, more answers.

Incredibly funny and makes your brain work
I love listening to these two over-engineer mathematical (and non-mathematical) solutions to the wide range of problems that are posed to them. This is an absolutely amazing podcast, and I hope we get another year!

    Absolutely Brilliant
I’ve been listening to and enjoying the A Problem Squared podcast since episode 001 in 2019. Bec and Matt provide a very fun and educational podcast in which they solve any problem anyone cares to submit to them. They actually do research and do lots of maths (Of Course) and provide a very fun and often funny answer to whatever the problem was. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn things while being thoroughly entertained.
  • JimmySoul2
    Simply the best!

    Great Problem Solving
Now that 2021 is over, I can conclude that “A Problem Squared” has been my favorite podcast over the last year. Matt and Bec are very funny and the quality of their work astounding (many dings). They are obviously the two people we need solving the worlds problems.

    Curiosity Piqued
Matt and Bec do an amazing job covering a wide variety of topics down to the last *DING* I can’t think of any other podcast where the host has taught math on all 7 continents.

    Pure Joy!
Bec and Matt are a joy to listen to. They are such kind friends. I also very much appreciate how they take such care to be explicitly inclusive of all types of people. I wish they had time to put out episodes more frequently!
  • jfjdjehe
    Entertaining
It’s not 1/2 bad come for the maths stay for the Bec. while they keep tweaking the format a bit to get the right mix I think they had it for a few episodes then tweaked it too far so for this I give the 80% rating.
  • jodamiller
    Applied Maths with Fun
Bed and Matt take the useful power of mathematics and apply it to answer listener problems. In doing so they add whimsy and good fun while finding answers to questions that most people wouldn’t dream of or try to solve on their own.
  • phipisign
    Answering all sorts of questions
Reminiscent of Randall Munroe’s book “What If”, Bec and Matt tackle an even wider variety of problems. Funny and educational, the duo churn out difficult answers to a medley of problems.
