Entertaining & will help you go faster!
Fantastic podcast - really great discussion of how to go faster on a bike technically and super fun to listen to.

    Terrific
The latest podcast with John Cobb was excellent storytelling! John’s deep experience, humility and ability to paint a picture through words was a great listen to anyone interested in bikes, engineering or problem solving. Good job to Josh for knowing when to talk and knowing when to listen! Five stars!

    Great Pod!!
    Great Pod!!

    First seasons were great.
I really wish there was more Josh and less of the other guys. I used to love Hottie and Fatty but lately it seems like they’re talking just to talk. 15% less Fatty, 7.5% less Hottie would drastically change the show. Also, stop making me skip the first 2-3 minutes of the show. Give me 1 short advert and then just get into it.

    Bike geek nirvana
If your a bike geek this is allot of great info plus the presentation is fantastic. I’ve been listening for quite a while and get sucked into all of them wether they relate to my type of cycling. Great balance of tech, storytelling and humor.

    A True Delight
I’m really happy to have found this uniquely, nerdy podcast for cyclists, as well as anyone who likes to explore the intricacies of problem-solving, product development and human endurance. I’m a Silca devotee as a result of this podcast, and really appreciate the efforts that Josh and company put into developing products that make cycling better. Subscribe and enjoy.

    Simply the best bike podcast!
I absolutely LOVE the Marginal Gains podcast. It is a super interesting blend of tech, performance, and racing from all around the industry. The hosts do a fantastic job keeping it informative and engaging. I've listened to every episode at least once. Keep them coming! My favorite episode is the Placebo Effect!

    Hampsten interview! *chef’s kiss*
Great interviews, great tech talk, great podcast. Shout out to Josh for having A-grade interview skills, which includes knowing when a guest is dropping gems and to just let them talk. A recent example would be Andy Hampsten’s GLORIOUS detailed retelling of the Passo Gavia stage in the ‘88 Giro D’Italia. Pure Gold!

This is the Best Bike Science Podcast
If you love the why and how of cycling this is the podcast for you. Data and Science lead the way to a brilliant podcast about how to make those marginal gains in your cycling. Love this podcast and I bet you will too!

Great podcast for those who want to get technical.
Great podcast and production. A bicycle podcast that gets into the engineering and science side of cycling. I MTB and BMX. There isn’t any BMX technical podcast so I try to apply what I can from what I learn here.

    So long…
Great material, but they take soooo long to deliver it. Twenty minutes of material in a one hour show. If you’re really into cycling, you’ll like it anyway.

    Art and Science
I’m not even a cyclist anymore but I still find this podcast fascinating. It’s helping me understand the technique behind the mind blowing performances I’m seeing as a passionate fan of racing. The content here is a fine example of the uncanny similarities between Art and Science. Thanks fellas!

    Awesome!
Probably my favorite cycling related podcast. Scratches my itch for knowledge on stuff that nobody really needs to know.. keep it up!

Fantastic lens into innovation for bicycles
It’s hard to characterize the main character in this podcast, Josh Poertner. He’s some kind of autodidactic polymath who also seems to be a genuinely nice guy and pretty decent interviewer with an easy voice to listen to. I’ve passed the hours on many long rides during the pandemic ruminating about all the different topics they’ve discussed. I am much more likely to advocate doing the most impactful things right than obsess over marginal gains, however, I still love the mental agility and curiosity of this podcast.

    Reservoir of Info
Amazing resource for those who want to eek all that they can from their body + bike. If you like cycling and have a penchant for physics, this podcast is for you!

Eye opening podcast to cycling science
Love this podcast. I love the specifics and the unmarketed truth. My understanding of cycling efficiency, Aerodynamic, comfort, etc has grown substantially. I now ride faster, enjoy tinkering in my bikes, and I save money.

    Hmmm.
I put in a comment that was not critical. The comment wasn’t approved, but I did immediately start getting spam emails from SILCA.

    5-Star Production
The discussions in the Marginal Gains Podcast seem to closely match my interest in trying to BE more and think more critically about less-than-obvious factors that enhance my awareness and improve my odds at achieving an intended outcome. Although the podcast is primarily aimed at cycling performance, which I thoroughly enjoy, its undertone applies to much more in life. Question (presumed) dogma. Search for improvement where others have already concluded it can’t be found. Reframe your perspective and work to achieve more than you thought (or were told) was possible. Surround yourself with people who share these goals for mutual, beneficial improvement. Josh, Fatty, and Hottie, I applaud your abilities to dissect and share ideas on complex yet interesting topics, while also providing historical context and often philosophical balance to the equation. This podcast is informative and thought provoking. Keep up the excellent work!

    Right? Right? Right?
Podcast and information is good. But he needs to stop saying “right?.... Right?” At the end of each sentence as if he’s looking for approval and unsure of what he is saying. Doesn’t sound confident and sounds like he’s questioning himself. Or, the other two guys could at least try to audibly show some acknowledgement.

    Super Content and Superb Production
Josh, Fatty, and Hottie, Thank you for making my now favorite podcast! I have binged through all of the episodes. The topics are great and I really appreciate the production effort you make - it is easy to hear even when driving in my old minivan and the better sound quality makes that Marginal Gains difference!

    In depth
Super informative stuff about triathlon and cycling. These guys go into the weeds on small things that make you faster 🚴🏼

Best podcast there is or ever will be
I have since deleted all other podcasts, this is the only podcast I need in life. Also the only podcast in which you’ll hear the phrase body centered cubic.

    Path Less Pedaled
I came to the podcast from Josh’s interview on tire pressure on the Path Less Pedaled podcast. It’s like my eyes have been opened. In another life, I want to be a data scientist / aero engineer. Great podcast. Keep it up Josh

    Engineers wet dream
Literally the best podcast bar none to geek out in bike aerodynamics and all that jazz.

Lifetime of experience... for the love of the bike
Josh has been riding and racing since he was a kid. He and his mom started developing cycling tools and products before he could drive. From Zipp to Silica there is nothing that Josh hasn’t looked to iterate and innovate. Great show for anyone that wants to get really granular into all the details of the racing industry as well as anyone who love the bike as the most efficiently elegant machine man has ever created.

    Fills the Void
Great podcast! Josh’s insight into the world of marginal gains and technical knowledge of products is amazing. While I enjoy listening to a number of different cycling podcasts, this is the only one that answers many of the deep questions I have (ex. always wondered about rolling resistance and why there was a change from the drum to the road). Keep up the good work!!

    Cycling Nerds Rejoice!
Very informative and technical topics of anything having to do with marginal gains on the bike. Unless you like to nerd out on technical details and cycling history it may be way deeper than you want to go. However, If you do plunge you’ll be rewarded. The topics are well researched and clearly presented.
  • AllanLloyd
    Way too technical
If you want to know how the bolt is made that goes onto your bike, this is the podcast for you. If you want to know how your tire is made, this is the podcast. Some very intelligent people on this podcast, but has a hard time dumbing it down for us simple triathletes. I just spent over an hour listing how metals are made and grain patterns of metal. Not sure how this relates to cycling and finding marginal gains to increase speed.

    My favorite podcast
This is probably my favorite podcast on iTunes. It is so informative and it is awesome to know how much thought goes into the cycling products we love from companies we trust. Josh is an amazing person, and I am truly impressed by his intelligence and knowledge. His passion for this sport and the gear and technology are amazing.

Very well executed, professional and genuinely enlightening 🐢💨💨💨
I rarely review podcasts (or anything) but this podcast is so well put together and lacking all the usual b@ll@cks that these sort of podcasts come with I felt I had to write a review to say thanks. I’ve already learnt more than I ever knew about how to choose the right tyre pressure for road and gravel, and have actually taken the time to recommend this podcast to other people. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before...so job well done, guys. May even look at a SILCA pump sometime if I can see a good price for one... 🐢💨💨💨

    I love this podcast
Very informative and fun to listen. Keep it up guys and I hope many more to come!!

    Great Show
I enjoyed the first show very much. Looking forward to many more.

    Insightful and entertaining
Good balance of information, stories and banter between the hosts. I really like how they've merged sport, pop culture and math/science in a way that ends up being a lot about cycling, but not entirely about cycling. Made my hour on the trainer go by super fast and now waiting for more.
