JH_210LovelyI’ve listened to pretty much all of the show (non-chronologically) and I really do enjoy it a great deal. Rob & Nissa are personable and clever, and I generally appreciate the care and granularity with which they approach their reflections on each episode of the adventures of Daria & her fellow denizens of Lawndale. One thing I do want to say is that I’m honestly surprised, upon reflection, that the hosts had such a strong negative reaction to John Gardner & the philosophy of art he proffers in The Art of Fiction (a book about which I have no strong feelings either way, for the record)—because so many of their own critiques of a given episode seem to have had so much to do with whether or not they liked what characters did, or felt the show was portraying X or Y in a certain light—to an extent that I occasionally felt they were being a bit too harsh on a given character, in particular if that person is a teenager, since we shouldn’t necessarily expect teenagers to make great or morally comfortable decisions! I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with that sort of a critical lens, tbc—it’s just interesting that it doesn’t seem so far afield of Gardner’s perspective, to me anyway. But, like Rob & Nissa themselves, just because I’ve spent so much of my review regarding the podcast with a bit of a gimlet eye doesn’t mean I don’t really love it! It’s a real balm. (It occurs to me that I might as well add that I started listening to this as I was winding down a spur-of-the-moment Daria rewatch via Param**nt +, my first in probably over a decade, since I watched the whole series for the first time on DVDs in 2013. That all being the case, I particularly appreciated the shoutouts to the music that appeared in the original airings, and loved hearing Rob & Nissa's reminiscences about same! ALSO loved hearing about their South Jersey youths, as someone who loves collecting firsthand anthropological information about all corners of the country.)

Yankeesgirlc21Fun podcast but hard disagree on the musicalI generally enjoy this podcast. The hosts are fun to listen to. But I have to say they take things way too seriously. The musical is just a fun episode nothing more. The insistence that it needs to mean something is what in my opinion is wrong with people nowadays, they can’t just watch things to enjoy them it has to have massive meaning or it’s just plain not worthy of being good.

Trixxie28Excellent Podcast!Daria was my favorite tv show growing up and it’s turned into my favorite comfort show. I absolutely had a blast listening to this podcast. I loved the in depth analysis of the show and the perspective of Rob and Nissa. Both of you were professional throughout. I have the day my favorite mishaps were the sound situations towards the end of the podcast. I actually looked forward to it lol.

emkay202Eh…It’s just not very fun listening to people talk about why each episode of “Daria” wasn’t completely perfect. I can appreciate acknowledging that certain jokes on the show wouldn’t work today, but these two put down episodes for nitpicky reasons, like not making its point strongly enough. Also, their critiques aren’t consistent… one minute, they’re talking about how the show is fat-shamey; the next minute, they’re cracking up over Jane’s line about a fat woman not having any family because she ate them. I think Nissa even said that was the best line of the episode.

atwoodsmarianoExcuse me I’ve got to be directI started watching this series for the first time last week as I was very young when it was still on the air and am hooked. Usually I try to find a good podcast to also accompany me when I start an older show and found this one. The first episode I decided to listen to was Road Worrier which is my favorite episode that I’ve seen so far and was not disappointed. You two are wonderful hosts who have a really great camaraderie together and clearly have a lot of fun watching this show. I like how you also go over the cultural context. My favorite characters are Trent, Daria, and Jane. Looking forward to listening to more episodes as I watch more.

callmebryceleeThis Is My StopLa-La-La-La-La! Being a huge Daria fan, I was disappointed by the lack of podcasts surrounding the hit MTV cartoon. Enter: Morgendorks: A Daria Podcasts. The hosts, Rob Press and Nissa Lee, not only recap the series, they give behind the scenes trivia and provide social and historical commentary relevant to each episode. This show is so much fun and I look forward to each new episode. If you love Daria and Jane and Quinn and the rest of the residents of Lawndale, this is the podcast for you!

cesspressoBest season yetI’ve just finished listening to Quinn the Brain and this is clearly the best episode recap the Morgandorks have done yet. The cultural context portion of this episode focusing on a Nazi Germany survivor who donned the color black out of necessity is the most powerful part of this episode. As good as this podcast is, the cultural context really brings the entire episode home. What must be said here is that the entire series of episodes, beat by beats, cultural context, and the thread of friendly banter is increasingly excellent from week to week.

BStreleckisHoly molyI got turned on to this early by friends. I remember the series pretty well, following the character from Beavis & Butt-Head to her own, wildly different series, to a point that I was REALLY surprised to see Daria pop up in what was the series Beavis & Butt-Head in late '97. I haven't seen every episode of Daria, but based on the podcast episodes so far, the hosts are covering this show in great detail, and even provide criticism of the show that I would not have thought of at the time. The further dive into the themes of the episode are a great touch as well. Off to an excellent start.
