I've only been a manager for a few years and so I'm continuing to learn how to manage people, processes, and substantive matters. As a former litigation attorney who has transitioned to a non-legal role, I'm aware that lawyers tend to be terrible managers! This podcast has helped me tremendously.

I really wanted to like this podcast but the host ruins it. The constant vocal fry and uptalk is awful!

In my work as a DEI facilitator and consultant, I often see managers who are expected to be “all things” but don’t get the training and support to do it well. While we can challenge our organizations to do this differently, this podcast serves as a helpful guide for mid-level managers to build their people and management skills along the way.

This podcast is usually pretty good. However in the latest episode about preparing for vacation, I was very disappointed in Mamie’s take on deciding how much work you’re going to do while on vacation - how often to check emails, how available you’ll be to colleagues, etc. That’s not vacation and this is something that’s wrong with American business culture. Mamie didn’t even float the suggestion of completely unplugging for a period of time. During a time when burnout is rampant, business leaders need encouragement to disconnect, not tips on how to manage work while they’re on vacation. I would have emailed instead of writing a review but could find no way to do that on her website.

I’ve been looking for a podcast just like this for years and I’m so happy I finally found it. As a new manager, I wanted to get advice and learn new skills so I could be the best manager I could be. Come to find out, this podcast is so much more, addressing issues like confidence, conflict resolution and career growth. All the podcasts about work that I’d found previously were either men-focused (which is fine, but women have other, different struggles) or entrepreneur-focused (which I have no desire to be). I’ve only listened to handful of episodes of this podcast so far and have forwarded several to friends and colleagues. Highly recommend!

This is a podcast where you think it will be all "business-y", and yes, it is. But so much of what they cover (especially on communication) can be applied to your personal life. The ideas presented, shared by leaders from brands we all know, can really make you re-think the way you conduct your business and your life. Well worth the time.

I’ve been listening to the modern manager since the beginning. Week after week Mamie brings thoughtful topics, guests, and leads very interesting and helpful discussions. Highly recommended!

Coming from a manager that has had no proper training, this podcast is absolutely amazing and beyond helpful. They’re very engaging and not too lengthy. I do wish there were more that focused on small business retail/sales and how to build those teams but overall I’ve found this podcast to be a resourceful tool for management.

I’m a big fan of Mamie’s approach to this podcast. She makes challenging ideas simple and understandable, but each episode has huge implications in my work life (and sometimes personal life). I’ve made progress in areas I assumed would always be my weaknesses. The resources that accompany each episode are also great and I often print and share them with colleagues.

This podcast makes it easy to find new ways forward as a leader and manager. Mamie's thoughtful outlines are filled with actionable advice and stories that bring best practices to life. She balances theory with practical advice that keeps the podcast grounded while also sketching out big pictures. I find myself relistening to episodes that are particularly relevant to current challenges but each one has something that improves my practice. As a parent, I also loved the first experimental PYB episode. Thanks for this, it's a gift!

I just started listening this week to the podcasts and have found the topics and content to be current, informative and enlightening. I am sure we all want to be rock star managers, but like everything in life it takes continuous effort and lifelong adaptivity. I am hooked.
