The best casual history podcast out there. Get across it.
If you like Dan Carlin but think he’s a little too long winded or “hardcore”, Riley Knight is your man. He’s a great mix of solid, compact storytelling of history with a wonderful sense of humor and an impeccable mastery of the French language. What more could you ask for?! Despite the name, this is in fact Full Arsed History. Thank you sir for all your work.

    Favorite Historical Podcast
Followed Riley since his days as a Magic The Gathering commentator. Whether he is commentating a match of magic or talking about some obscure or not so obscure historical event he never fails to entertain, make you laugh and sometimes make you think. Add this podcast to your life and it will only get better from there!

    Great stuff!
Wonderful delivery and research, interesting topics, no filler. My only problem with it is the loud music bracketing each episode. You can’t listen to it before bedtime as a result, so that means many of us will listen to it a lot less.

    so good
    so witty

Easily the best and most entertaining history podcast out there!

    Best history podcast ever
Riley makes every episode thoroughly entertaining. He also includes thought-provoking commentary to assist us in understanding more than just the historical event or acts of a certain historical figure. He really humanizes people and events. I find myself seriously considering what I would do in a scenario or who I would become based on circumstances. I think this is the real benefit of history. Whether that is for something we want to repeat or remember in order to avoid. My favorite podcast in many years of listening to them for hours everyday. I’ve binged them all and now I’m sad to have to wait for the new episodes!

    Entertaining
Listening to the 100 years war episode with my family in the car is awesome.
  • Palunargar
    Very Entertaining and entertaining
This podcast was recommended by my daughter. I really enjoyed . The Battle of Etter should be made into a movie. It has a great plot.
  • Illidansbabe
    Funny, insightful, original!
You’ll think these stories are a work of fiction! The host does an amazing job finding stories from history that are bizarre, and placing them in a meaningful historical context- and it’s funny the entire time! But what sets this show apart, is that there is real substance. Don’t be fooled by the “useless history degree” tag line and irreverent title. The host knows his stuff- this podcasts are well written and edited, and even the most absurd events can have effects still felt today.
  • Maverick_man
    Great for daily commute
Riley’s candor as he recounts pivotal people and periods in history is just a joy. He’s able to also draw important contextual relationships to modern times (see The Black Death, Mar 2020). Good show mate!

    Brilliant

    Whole-Arsed Podcast
Hey Riley, Excellent podcast, mate! You make history fun and accessible for those without "useless history degrees". Been telling everyone I can about the show, saying "Yeah it's a history podcast, but it's less boring classroom lecture and more chatting with a pal at a bar" Keep it up, man!

    Interesting and Personal
I've been a big fan of Riley Knight since first seeing him commentate in the MTG scene. This show brings out the best of his humor and charm and I highly recommend it, even for those with no prior interest in history.

    Riley coming through once again!
Brighten your day with his quirky style of story telling. Riley never fails to bring a big fat smile to my face in-spite of it being trampled on all day by corporate. Thank you Riley for getting me through work one episode at a time.
  • Unglobulousness
    Kudos to youdos!
Riley. Good Ghod mate! Wot an effort! I salute you. Especially as, on a whim, I gave a listen to the “Scry Me A River” podcast (being an avid Magic player) and was surprised to hear your voice!
  • Sacredagent
    One of the greats
I always look forward to Riley’s podcast.
  • Over excited about everything
    An absolute top tier show!
This show brings me more pure joy than any other podcast. It is up there with the all time greats for sure. I recommend starting with episode 88 to get for a good sample or the Bonnie and Clyde episode.
  • Steve Kaneb
    Delightful!
Runs the gamut from obscure to well-trod stories, with a curious mind and a particular deficiency in French pronunciation.
  • Dday99
Long time fan first time reviewer
I have been a fan of Riley Knight’s content since i heard him doing commentary alongside PVDDR for a GP in Brazil. Fun and entertaining as ever.

The history teacher you wish you had
Riley, the host, has a keen sense of how to take many of the stories you heard in history class (that put you to sleep like white noise in the background) and make it thump like a bass cabinet pouring out dubstep, making your brain dance and laugh.
  • ThereAllIsAching
    Genuinely Funny
I go through a lot of history podcasts, this is one of the few that I keep coming back to. The host is clever and does a good job of keeping the show flowing.

What Was Boring In School Is Now FUN
Do you remember how dry and boring some history was. I only wish Riley was was teacher instead of Mr. Pennypuss. Interesting topics told with flair, knowledge and things you have never heard in school. Is this the same Riley Knight who was a runway model in the sixties??
  • BD867
    Fun & Full of Humor
I love knowing someone out there is using their history degree in some capacity instead of letting it wilt away like mine is! Definitely a top podcast, Riley! Very enjoyable and informative. I particularly liked the warning to all of us obnoxious Americans on the potato podcast. Perfect, truly perfect!
  • Nicolas Vt
    Great Podcast, would recommend
The host is funny, informed and picks interesting topics.

    Entertaining history!
This guy does an amazing job of telling history in a fun witty way. He’s full of pop culture references and makes jokes through out the telling. Spectacular!
  • marieminus
    Fun and informative
I really like this podcast because it's tremendously amusing as well as exceedingly insightful. It covers a wide range of topics/cultures/countries and is easy to listen to. I can recommend it to anyone who is interested in knowing more about world history in its nitty gritty details.

Amusing retelling of unique moments or people in history
I discovered this podcast from tags of reading material Riley Knight producers in Magic the Gathering. As a high school history teacher who tries to keep history amusing and interesting I appreciate his efforts in doing the same. I’ve found myself laughing out loud numerous times as well as looking up follow-up information on the topics. You’ll find his accent, humor, and expressions make for a great history podcast with recordings that are not too long or too short. I look forward to listening to more!
  • maxtheman36
    Hell yes
    Keep it up boyo

    Good show but...
I’m giving you 5 stars because you have a good show, the 2nd Pacific Squadron episode brought me in and it was awesome. I however then listened to the Alamo episode and as a Red-Hat wearing Texan I must admit I was really looking forward to actually listening to the History of the event...after you were done bashing my people a bit for wanting a strong border, which is totally fine. Live your life your way and I’ll do the same. Let’s not, however, lose sight of the fact the all land on earth has been fought over at some point. Spain killed natives, Mexico and France fought each other and Spain all for the usual dubious and legitimate reasons that people have always come up with. The only seaming thing that is different about the United States is that since we seem to have come out of history ahead of Mexico, which is a diplomatic way of putting it, so Mexico gets a big pass on its historical blemishes, the same can be said of Spain or really pretty much any country on earth that isn’t at the forefront of world affairs. You can see people complaining the same way in places like Germany and Britain, there’s a lot of guilt being through around these days. I still love your show just try to remember that everyone from throughout history is just as good and bad as everyone else. No one is a saint and no one is the villain, we’re all just folk.

    Unmissable history mystery
Great fun slant on historical randomness. I don’t miss an episode.

    Awesome pod
It’s like listening to fun lectures from your favorite college professor.

Riley is a joy to listen to
Riley is by far my favorite e-sports commentator, and he is now my favorite half-arsed historian. He and Malcolm Gladwell (yes, I just made that comparison) are now my frequent suppliers of the more curious events of history. Thank you!
  • Smurfy999
As informative as it is whimsical
Rileys humor injects his tales of yesteryear perfectly and gives the stories new life. So impressive is his grasp of sarcasm and general wit that you’d be forgiven for thinking he was British and not actually an Aussie, no one is perfect though
