    Musical memories
I’ve been listening for about 10 years and want to tell you what a wonderful show you have. I look forward to it each week. I love the stories behind the music.

    If You Like History
This is history in sound, music. I started listening quite a few years ago and this is the only podcast that I am subscribed to, that I consistently listen to on a regular basis. Bryce, you have themes we can look forward to each year, such as musicians born in the year 100 years ago (1923) or summer love songs and all kinds of subjects such as veggies. THANKS! This is updated March 21, 2024. Please keep creating the podcasts! Could you do a show featuring tap dancing or shows featuring artists Pearl Bailey and Della Reese? I couldn’t find a place to comment or ask questions. Just know your listeners appreciate you!

    Like traveling through time
I’ve been loyally listening at least 10 years and am still impressed by his passion and breadth of knowledge. All the music is before my time, but it has always somehow resonated with me. I like to imagine walking into a store or diner of the era and hearing it playing—I guess it IS timeless. Thank you Thank you Thank you! Years since my last review and still the first podcast I listen to when it drops. I was raised with stacks of old popular sheet music and wonder if an episode incorporating sheet music (oh those covers!) would be interesting. May be a challenge without visuals… Thanks again for the many years of music🙂

    Thank You Music Man!!!
Listening to each episode I learn about a new song, artist, group and influence on today's music. I've found many songs I like from present day artists originated from decades earlier. I've liked these songs from the early days of animated entertained and now appreciate some of the humor from my grandparents era. I'm now halfway to my centennial and love the connection to music from my grandparents generations. I've always like the older musicians like Perry Cuomo and Duke Ellington. I'm loving the history lesson as well as the concert of older recordings. Listening one episode at a time, or a day full of episodes, it's always a bright day hearing the roots of modern music. 'Music From 100 Years Ago' goes on my shelf with all the well listened and loved artists that aren't with us anymore, but live on in memoriam with all the artists, well known, and almost forgotten. Thank you Brice Fuqua for keeping all the music living on in your podcast. So much music, so little time to enjoy it all!! Thank you for all the hard work.

A superb celebration of American music
This podcast program is everything to me!❤️ A wonderful collection of American Jazz & Ragtime from a century ago that is not simply “old music” but the anthem of an entire generation of Americans (our ancestors) who, like us today, danced, shouted, laughed, cried, flirted and partied to the sounds, beats, rhythms, and entertainers that encapsulated what life was all about in the early 20th century. The hot jazz, blues, flappers, rags, and all I truly love. But my favorite episodes by far are the annual Halloween tunes. Incredible spooky popular music our country sorely needs to be reacquainted with - there is more to the holiday than “Thriller” and “The Monster Mash”! Haha. Thank you, Mr. Fuqua.

    Thank you.

    All of your shows!
I was just listening to your latest podcast, the one about flowers, and you mentioned that you'd rambled a bit on the two previous podcasts and apologized for those podcasts lasting longer than normal. I actually loved both of those podcasts – really, what makes your shows so fascinating is your commentary. Well, that and the music you select, too. Please keep up the excellent work!

    Thank you!
I started listening when I became a truck driver in 2010. This show has been a wonderful way to fill many long hours on the road.

    Simply Wonderful!
This podcast is awesome! It puts a pep in my step whenever I listen, and just makes me smile. I learn so much too, and as a millennial I learn so many great songs that are new to me! Many of the tunes covered here are the first recordings of songs that went on to be classics, and though my parents grew up with those records at their grandparents houses, I did not, so I love that hat I can be reintroduced to so many famous songs.

I have been listening to these podcasts for many years and never get tired of hearing the different selections A couple of times I heard songs that I heard my father sing but never knew anything about them until I heard the podcast Best wishes

    Fresh Air!
This podcast is a breath of fresh air. Every time I listen, my spirits are lifted and I learn a lot! A great balance of music and background for each song - not too much, but really informative. I love it!

    Sounds of the Century
I’ve become addicted to this podcast. It’s an informative & entertaining journey through American popular music from the 1st half of the 20th century. The host is masterful in his selection of tunes & offers interesting historical perspectives on all the music. Bravo!

    Phenomenal
Listening to Fuqua’s commentary and then the tracks feels is like music hug. I have no other way to describe it. Simply the best.

    Stellar work!!!
Brice provides great music and the story behind it, and there's never a dull moment. Thanks so much, Brice!

    Outstanding
Eclectic. Informative. Entertaining. What else does one need in a podcast? Oh - GREAT music. Well done, maestro.

    Amazing Resource ! ! !
The only thing that I didn't like, and this is literally the only thing, was Brice's microphone hum in some of the very early episodes. I would have gladly bought him a new one. If he charged for this show I think he would have more listeners, because people take it for granted when a show this good free. It's like a totally fun survey class around a theme from music made long ago.

    My Go-To Work Music
Brice, I love your show beyond words. Your program is a comfort to me, an old soul trapped in the digital era. Shows like this make it easy to soften the blow of the harsh times we live in, and also learn a lot about the events and people often forgotten before us. *** As a designer, I work at home. His voice, and the soft, crackly historic recordings are a comfort any day. The show features, as he says in his intro, music, from the first half of the twentieth century. I’ve heard pretty much every episode, some multiple times, and I always catch something new. I love to learn, love history, and music. I searched for awhile to find the right online radio program that plays pre-forties music, without repetition. This is it. I’ve also played this at little soirées with audiophile friends, to great reception. Brice- I’ve figured out your 666th episode will come in October of 2019? I’m expecting something phenomenal. ;) Thank you for the entertainment. -Deanna

I love listening to this show! Brice does a great job of working around different themes and he seems to find such interesting and enjoyable songs to play. Unpretentious, enthusiastic and dedicated. Love it.

    Wonderful
I'm a sucker for old music but the best thing about this is how it's curated. Perfect little themes. It's delightful.
  • Rolland Lynch
    I’m happy
I really like listening to the oldies. The ups and downs of the artists. Just interesting thing that happened in the music business at the time. Thank you.

One of the best music podcasts out there
Brice does a great job of putting these shows together and coming up with fresh themes. I love the tidbits of triva that he adds and his musical selection is great. I highly recommend this podcast to any archaic music lover.

The History and Songs Presented Here Are Fantastic!
I have been listening now for about two years and I have found nothing else that comes close to this podcast. If you are interested n how music developed, who wrote, played, and sang the songs of the early 20th century, this is the podcast for you. I have no idea what the host does for a livng, but he is a natural-born musicologist. Rare tunes, familiar tunes, the well known artists and obscure ones that touched American lives for the first half of the 20th. century are revealed here along with facts and interesting stories. If you love music, subscribe to this podcast.
  • iGroove. Mellow yet engaging.
    Podcast gem!
Fantastic program! I enjoy the interesting music of generations ago and the historical context that Brice provides. Wonderful find!

    Always A Treat
Wonderful, and nicely curated, with just the right (brief) amount of commentary explaining the background of these tunes from the past.
  • Black Hole Gang
    New episode this weekend.
I was glad to find out Brice Fuqua is o.k., because new episodes typically appear like clockwork, and he told me, himself, that a new episode will air this weekend. This is really terrific entertainment: informative, thoughtfully produced, and some of the greatest music ever made.
  • MattMedia1982
    Where’s Brice?
Last month he said he’d be back next week, but he hasn’t been back. He even said the next show would be about murder mysteries! Now we’re all living a mystery!
  • martialstax
    A wonderful podcast
I started listening with episode #400, and I haven’t missed an episode since. I am impressed not only with the music, but the host’s wide field of interest. Pop, jazz, country, folk, blues, classical and more are all treated with equal respect. This podcast has introduced me to so much excellent music and so many extraordinary performers, it truly is a treasure chest of music knowledge.
  • Oldies buff
    Great show
I'm gradually making my way through the archive, so please keep all those old episodes available. In addition to the wonderful music and narrative, I also have developed a big crush on Brice Fuqua. I love his relaxed manner and his accent. Keep up the good work. PS. I don't know much, but I'm pretty sure that Chick Webb and Ella Fitzgerald were never married to each other. Also every time Brice says Bouswell, I shout "Boswell!" Aside from that I trust whatever else he says.

Never get bored of this podcast
I've been listening since the beginning of the podcast (and miss the occasional wax roll recordings) and it is one of the few podcasts that is always a joy to hear. I would love to know more about where the catalog comes from, just amazing.
  • Bookerh
    Great music, great info.
I'd rather listen to this podcast than pandora. It only plays good stuff and is only interrupted by brief, informative commentary.
