embowlden77Corgis, cozies, crime, and so much moreEasily my favorite of the Book Riot podcasts (even though I've been listening to the OG show since it's beginning), this podcast has led me down so many reading rabbit holes--plus the hosts are lovely.
-
Poppy__FlowerLove it!Always enjoy this podcast, thank you! I listen to most of the episodes multiple times. Corgi updates, tippy taps, and opinions are delightful!

chrbaker.mchWhy is Katie still a host?No offense to who she is as a person but is this really the right host for this podcast? She never reads. Every episode includes her reasoning for why she doesn’t read any more. She often just uses the same books for multiple topics. Sometimes she talks about a book before she finishes it and she’s completely wrong on where the book is going and it doesn’t even fit the topic. Also, because she doesn’t seem prepared for each show she often rambles and rambles. Book Riot has to have better options!
-
FrasierRulesNarration is not writingThe hosts are more concerned with the narrators than the actual books. Not useful for actual readers.
-
kathysarasotaJust discovered, and I love it!!I just discovered this podcast maybe two weeks ago, and it is very binge worthy although my TBR list is growing exponentially! One of my fave book review podcasts now!
-
Jol303Too badSorry, Katie Horner, not so great. This is a great premise but too many personal life stories.

fotochick13Great show!I love the show and never miss an episode. You cover a lot of books I’m interested in because there isn’t a horror podcast on book riot. I love thrillers too so your podcast is perfect. Just one thing though, Katie, PLEASE stop saying juices flowing!!!! 🤞🤞

k8wmaEnjoy this podcastI’ve been listening since episode 1 and I am a little surprised by some of the reviews. I’ve listened to many many poorly done true crime podcasts, so maybe my standards are low? Regardless, I’ve discovered a lot of new books and personally I don’t care if they don’t read “classics” from the 30’s and 40’s; those are pretty well reviewed already. Keep up the good work, ladies! 2021 edit: rincey left and I no longer can recommend. Just a personal opinion but I don't care for this podcast any longer.
-
harleypol24Great jobJust wanted to write and tell you how much I enjoy the enthusiasm of this podcast. I miss Rincey but love Nusrah as well. Thanks Ladies, you are doing a great job.
-
Kittens MittensAlmost 5 starsThis is a great podcast about mystery, thriller and scary books. It would get five stars from me except for this, I really enjoy Rinceys reviews but she throws the word “Like” in there so many times it’s distracting.
-
Busyperson1234“LIKE”Why is every other word from Rency “like”? It drives me crazy! If this was a drinking game you would be passed out in the first ten minutes if you were drinking every time she says like.
-
ughblahwhyLoveIt’s so nice to have a good podcast talking about the spookier side of fiction! I wish we could do more horror-themed episodes, but I’ll take what I can get.
-
Tiny891234455I love the book recommendations! This is a great fun listen and I love the book recommendations! I’m a huge mystery/thriller/true crime lover and I’ve been enjoying the light discussions. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because of the constant swallowing noise coming from one of the hosts. If you listen to the episodes, she’s CONSTANTLY swallowing and you can hear it all. I know it’s picky and random but it’s very off putting and when listening, it’s a gross sound to hear every few words. And it leads to a kind of awkward pause every other word/sentence.

MMK42This Could Be My Favorite PodcastThis could easily be my favorite podcast but... Mysteries and thrillers are my jam. I look forward to this podcast more than any others. That being said, I have some issues with it. Firstly, I consider myself to be a progressive and liberal feminist BUT I find the hosts insistence on being super “woke” with every review tiring. Sometimes I want reviews on popular releases because they sound good! If the author happens to be white or a man, that can still be ok. Secondly, the hosts speak so quickly and with weird nervous tics that it can be off putting. After three years of hosting this show, they shouldn’t sound so nervous. And lastly, they often just read the blurb that’s given by the publishers. I’d like to hear a more in-depth description of the book.

nbsp2Gets Better All The TimeLOVED the Nancy Drew segment! So interesting to think about how or even if we can still relate to The characters and plots. Never thought I’d be the least bit interested but I might actually do a reread.
-
BooksrockcalA wonderful podcastHow much do I love this podcast!? A ton! I love mysteries and true crime, and these two book lovers locate and describe so eloquently some of the best mysteries out there. They are young and hip book lover/librarians, not old and stodgy stereotypical mystery lovers, and they explore all kinds of mysteries- from cozy to dark to thriller to fantasy- the way they describe them, I want to read them all. I’m forever grateful to this duo for their enthusiasm for the Widows of Malabar Hill- what a great book!! Thank you Book Riot for devoting a podcast to mysteries and for employing Katie and Rincey to curate it.
-
JustEmilyCCould use some workOh boy, this podcast needs some help. The hosts are no where near a good source for mystery and thriller podcasts. Most of the book discussion involves reading from the back summary from the book. Any book news is just a run down of old news that anybody could find. You will not get any insider scoop. Also, like almost all other Book Riot podcasts, the hosts have a harding time transitioning of topics are knowing when to stop talking about a book. There's a lot of repeated sentenances. And yes, like other reviewers are saying, the 'ums", "you knows" and "likes" is pretty absured compared to most other podcasts. Finally, I know this is picky but one of the hosts pronounces the word "already" as "aldreadly". Listen for it.
-
toniclarkUm, Uh, Like. . . . You know?I can't listen to this one anymore (and I love bookish podcasts). These women sound terribly unprepared and ramble on about their personal lives. Like other reviewers, I find the amazing number of "ums" and "likes" fatally distracting and irritating.
-
Kyle McClellandIt could use a little helpI am a mighty big fan of the horror genre, and I feel that the majority of the books recommended on here are mostly light murder mysteries. Not entirely a bad thing, but just wish the recommendations were more diverse, even if recommending older books. Like other reviewers, the excessive amounts of the words “uh”, “um”, and “like” is like nails on a chalkboard. It feels as if they are used mostly when trying to voice incomplete thoughts, but with show notes that shouldn’t be very frequent...unless they are coming to the table unprepared. Also, I feel there is too much personal chatter and media news, while actual recommendations taking a back seat. I am grateful for the few books I have added to my TBR due to this podcast, but I would recommend those few changes.
-
CedricsmomToo many ums and chit chat.I am sure that Katie is a lovely person, but we don’t need to hear about her personal life add nausea him. Francie is great but the other girl just goes on and on too long. I love the comprehensive information about the books but I’m not so big on the personal stuff.
-
MysteryReader77Not Sure...That I’ll continue with this. I love the concept because the mystery genre is my favorite but like a lot of listeners the amount of “uhmns” start to become all of hear after a while. I also don’t feel either host sound comfortable doing this. It’s been nearly two years and I can understand first year jitters but the last episode was just a mess. I also feel both presenters have a very narrow band of types of mysteries they like and are dismissive of everything else. That’s too bad because I really wanted to like this podcast.
-
Oliver LloydKatie made me unsubscribeSeems like in every episode, Katie stumbles through her part of the show because she didn’t take time to prepare. But she was really quick to spoil the ending of a book in a series I happen to be reading at the time. Bye.
-
Pat Seagerinteresting and informativemysteries/thrillers are my favorite genres and this podcast delivers. I appreciate that the hosts repeat the name and author after discussing a book as often I don't get it at the beginning or have forgotten it. above is my review of over a year ago. I must add that the verbal tics of "like" multiple times in one sentence and many "you knows" are offputing. Doesn't anyone at Book Riot listen?
-
KatrinaLemon666Love itI just love this podcast so much, Katie and Rincey are so fun to listen to and I’ve listened to each episode at least twice just because haha!
-
SupersuLike... Um ...It’s been over a year .. time to stop saying “like” over 50 times in a single review I love the recommendations - but this podcast is almost painful to listen to. I wonder if you listen back to any episodes, because, like, it’s like, time to make this like, more like Book Riots other pods.
-
lc1301So many books! This podcast is so much fun. My TBR list just keeps growing and I find out about so many books I’ve never heard of.
-
binnapervilleDisappointingI only listened to one episode. The hosts were barely able to put coherent sentences together, neither finished their episode highlight book, and I’m sorry but I can read publisher descriptions of new releases on my own. Unsubscribed.
-
StarlaElizabethPlease editPlease stop with um and like, um you know. Every other word that is spoken on this podcast is either um or like. Mystery/thriller is my favorite genre but this podcast is difficult to listen to due to the use of so many distractors.
-
Love books? Listen here.well done showI just found this almost a year of back episodes to catch up on :) I love it,. I am a big mystry fan and there is always one (or more) book i am being introduced to that I wouldnt have found otherwise. AND I love that its so much more than a list of books podcast - those are already out there. this has news and current book events its a good time.
-
What I'm Watching & TweetingHow many times can they say "like?"The hosts' hearts and enthusiasm are in the right place, and they are consistently inclusive of diverse writers and storytelling. However, how many times can two literate ladies say "like" in an episode? The most recent show broke some sort of record and almost made me unsubscribe. But the recommendations are spot on for my preferred reading so I will stick with them. Hopefully they will improve (perhaps take a page from the "For Real" hosts from Book Riot. They are my new favorites.
-
ShawnT's TunesMore perspective pleaseFor the most part, I like this podcast. But I wish they would have a little perspective when reading things that are considered classic. In the noir episode, both could not finish classic noir and cited reasons that showed they shouldn’t be talking about books on this grand level. If you can’t read a book written in the 30’s or 40’s (or any other period) and understand the time it was written, then why are you talking about books. Maybe you need some more diversity in this podcast.
-
mampdx2Terrible for my TBR listGlad to have found this mystery book review and recommendation podcast, but I'm always adding more books to my TBR list after each podcast than I have time to read. :-D
-
AprilRamoneLove this show!I'm loving this show! My TBR list is going crazy though:)
-
desertrose0601UghI listened to a couple episodes but ended up feeling like these girls don't actually read the books they're talking about. Some of their topics were pretty interesting but overall it just felt tiring to hear their prattle about things that might be trendy but that they just don't actually understand.
-
CosettemariePromisingIt's a new podcast, so will undoubtedly get better over time. The confidence of the hosts is already improving immensely and the recommendations are expanding into books not necessarily being promoted by publishers (which makes me crazy, since the books promoted by publishers are almost entirely first person thrillers and cozies, which are not the categories single-minded mystery readers tend to love, but are rather attractive to people who read lots of genres). Please more hard boiled, PI, legal thrillers, spies and detective series! Less (or preferably no) lit fic with mysterious elements. Just try talking sci-fi with sci-fi fans and claiming that lit fic with slightly futuristic aspects is sci-fi and you'll get why mystery fans hate "mystery elements" being passed as mysteries. Also, petty pet peeve: it's a mystery/mysteries, not a mystery book. Mostly you guys use the former, but every time you use the latter I yell at the podcast. Update: I’m unsubscribing. They barely talk about actual mysteries, and I can’t stand it anymore. On the search for a new podcast.

terry427Loving this podcast!I recently found this podcast and have immediately downloaded all episodes. I love the format, enjoy both hosts, and have found my reading list multiplying with every listen!
-
Dottie456Great Podcast!Mysteries and Thrillers are my favorite genres, so I really enjoy this podcast! I love all the recommendations and discussions!
-
LuckyGirlDesignWhat a joy in the world of MysteryYes they had a few issues with the first few podcasts. Mostly unequal voice levels. You can always fix the issues... the passion is something you cannot fix. Both of these women have it tenfold! I find myself looking forward to the next episode the moment I finish the latest. Please continue on!!!
-
mugsymaeNeeds improvement....I really like the idea of a podcast focusing on one specific genre. I am an avid reader however not one from the mystery genre. When I heard Book Riot was adding this podcast I was excited to expand my horizons. I have listened to every episode and I am waiting patiently for it to improve. I cringe every time one of the co hosts stumbles over her words or rambles on to make her point. I appreciate the effort put forth but I have come to the conclusion today that I can find ideas for mystery recommendations elsewhere. I may revisit this podcast in 6 months time to see if it has become more succinct.
-
LSMusic2022Love it!I've been following Rincey's YouTube channel for a couple of years now. It's so good to now hear her on a pod dedicated to suspence, thrillers and mysteries. Such fun! Keep up the great work!
-
EditDvaUm, like, you know......I subscribe to a lot of podcast. I subscribe to several Book Riot podcast. And I'm an avid mystery reader so I was excited when the release of this podcast was announced. Sadly, I am very disappointed. The amount of ums, likes and you knows has is making me crazy. Combine that with the fact that it takes a ridiculously long amount of time to actually get to a point in the podcast where there are recommendations for any mystery books means I will be unsubscribing.
-
This podcast makes me happy :)Muppet arms! :)Yay!! Happy Muppet arms for this new podcast! I love Rincey's YouTube videos so I was very excited to hear about this podcast! Rincey and Katie are both well read and give awesome mystery recommendations!
-
38BlackBirdsJust not my cup of tea. This seems to be mostly a noir-and-gore mystery podcast. Lots of books where pretty young women get murdered. The podcast is heavy on discussion of hot issues in genre and lighter on recommendations.
-
Carol_791Oh Yeah!!!My favorite genres are mystery/thrillers and Sci-fi so this podcast is right up my alley. I like how they discuss book-related news but also the new releases for this genre. I enjoy it and highly recommend it to readers.
-
ReadingMidwifeStep it upI love most of the Book Riot podcasts, and I love hearing recommendations in the mystery/thriller genre(s). So I'll probably keep listening. But this podcast isn't quite as high-quality as the other BR ones. In the latest episode, I listened to 30+ minutes of rambling discussion on defining the genre with hardly any recommendations -- this after extensive discussion of the same issue in the previous episode! I just couldn't finish.
-
Hamilton ClanDeep cuts from the RoD butcher knifeI'm a mystery writer and huge fan of the mystery and thriller genres, so I was especially jazzed to learn that Book Riot was starting a podcast aimed at those readers. It doesn't disappoint: Three episodes in, and they've mentioned everything from Encyclopedia Brown to fave Tana French to new Edgar nominee Joe Ide. Plus the Orient Express movie and Branagh's performing mustache. Looking forward to learning about new and exciting books (so many books!) with Rincey and Katie.

Kestrel_ReadsLet's Talk...Mystery/Thriller/SuspenseThis podcast is young, but promising. Enjoyed discussion of distinction between mystery/thriller /suspense. Loving the news/discussion component combined with the reading recs. Book Riot is my jam!
