Hoops 1021Used to be a fan, until...On a recent episode, Koula mentioned visiting an ice cream shop just to take in the smells--not necessarily eat the ice cream. David responded by saying this was "the dumbest thing he had ever heard." He could have made light of this without saying her remarks were dumb in front of thousands of listeners. It sounded condescending...would he have used that language while interviewing one of his world-class guests? I would never tell any of my team members their remarks are "dumb"--even in a lighthearted setting. I definitely expect more from someone teaching leadership at the highest level.

Remata0221Amazing podcast for leaders at any levelI am not a podcast person. In fact this podcast is only the second one I’ve ever listened to. However, I think I am already up to twenty episodes in four weeks. It helps that I’ve had some road time for work. I have shared this podcast with every leader in my department and several episodes with our front line (hopefully our future leaders). David Novak’s generosity, his interest in his guests, his research of his guests, and insightful questions for his guests…all of it makes for a true masterclass in leadership week after week. Highly recommend.

Dom SosaEnlightenmentI recently discovered this podcast and i loved it so much that I began listening to episodes from the very beginning which was years ago. I have enjoyed binge listening to each episode hearing gems and nuggets of wisdom shared by the myriad of executives that have been featured on the show. I appreciate Mr Novak, he does an amazing job as the host. He is very knowledgeable and pays great respect to each of his guest and the respect is always reciprocated. What i love most about the show is that i am able to take away something from every single episode. I have even purchased a couple of David Novak’s books since i started listening to the show.

HhfgdggfifFree life lessonsThis podcast is full of life lessons and advice. I came across this podcast in search of finding some tournament wisdom from professional golfers for my son. After listening to Mr. Novak interview Jack Nicklaus, I was hooked. I have now listened to almost all of the interviews that span across a multitude of industries. The podcasts interview people in sports, banking, technology, start ups, artists, Fortune 500 companies, doctors, restauranteurs and many others. Each one is unique and gives the listener a chance to learn from the best of the best. It is a window into the minds and hearts of some of the most prominent leaders in the world. Life lessons about preparation, the importance of listening, empathy, purpose, communication, gratitude and giving back are themes that seem to run through all leaders regardless of their work. I have since introduced Mr. Novak's podcast to my college aged sons, in hopes that they will pick up on some of these lessons. Mr. Novak's interviews are so engaging you almost feel as if you are in the room with the interviewee. High school and university students could learn a ton from this podcast!

BeALeader,NotABossFor leaders and aspiring leaders alikeI’ve listened to How Leaders Lead since it began and find myself yearning for more at the end of each episode. The diversity and variety of guests is what keeps it interesting. Leaders of any kind, or those who aspire to be, should absolutely listen. At worst you’ll get affirmation of what you’re doing; but at best you could grow and develop your own leadership skills to become an even more effective leader.

william eickhoffSimply the best!David Novak is unique because he’s walked the talk. He seems to know everyone at the top Levels of leadership. And yet he maintains a sense of humility. I should know, David is my patient and you’d never know who he is or what he’s accomplished. He’s the real deal.

Jan HelsonNever Forget 9/11I was profoundly impacted by the tragic events of 9/11 and the resilience and patriotism of our country afterward. David’s interview with Jimmy Dunne about the impact of 9/11 on his colleagues and his life is deeply moving. It is emotional, smart, and very touching. Jimmy talked about how our country unified after the attacks and how because of that unity, he felt like he had the support of every American when he and his colleagues lost 66 of their 171 associates on 9/11. In that time of tragedy, he knew he had to be there for the families of his fallen associates and the ones who were shattered by their loss. I was so moved by this interview and David’s ability to give Jimmy a safe and easy space to share his story.
