    Such a wealth of insight.
Welp, I’ve listened to 85 episodes now so I figure I should do my part and leave a review. What an amazing resource! If anything, the guest list is unparalleled. I originally started listening to learn more about recording/mixing drums, but I’ve just started listening to everything because there isn’t an episode where I don’t learn something. I fear the day I run out of these.

    Lij is great!
His approach, humble vibe, the guests he gets, topics & etc is absolutely fantastic. I moved from new age self-help pods to this program. LOL 😃 Best podcast at Apple 🍎

    Super Helpful!
I’m an audio engineering graduate and am a couple years out with no recent practice. Trying to get back in the audio world and this podcast has been so helpful! Thanks for making this podcast and helping aspiring engineers everywhere!

    Just what I needed
Lots of technical tips from successful professionals... thank you!

    An invaluable resource!
As a touring and recording musician who has "backed in" to recording and producing, I have received a ton of useful information from this podcast, and a million thanks to Lij and his guests for sharing their knowledge and experience! I especially enjoy hearing from longtime heavyweights like Andrew Scheps, George Massenburg, Joe Chicarelli and Bill Schnee, but there is something to be gained from pretty much every episode and I appreciate all the different perspectives.

    Excellent Podcast!
I learn something from every episode. One of the few that I don’t miss any episodes.

    I love the show, but...
...Too many ad breaks! Stack ‘em at the beginning or at the end. It really kills the vibe with all the sudden interruptions. Aside from that, I love this podcast and am truly grateful something like this exists. I’ve learned so much from listening for the past few months. Thanks to Kevin Parker for sampling the Jeff Turzo episode - that’s how I discovered it in the first place!

    Tweak the Tone
Some excellent content in this podcast, with great guests. My only complaint is with the host at times. Something about the way he refers to listeners as “rockstars” feels condescending. Like he’s talking to a bunch of dorky, insecure kids at camp.

    Gonna dig in
Enjoyed the chiptune episode. Hopefully your listeners aren’t just now learning about chiptune though! Gonna dig into some more episodes. Thanks for interviewing interesting recording artists.

Lots of value, podcast itself is clumsy
Many valuable nuggets in the content, and of course many respected and talented engineers. This is also a great example of a podcast that could HUGELY benefit from better editing and pre-production planning. I offer these suggestions in earnest because I’d like to see this podcast improve on itself. 1. LENGTH - the episodes are way too long and require a lot of wading through to get to the good stuff. There is so much that can be edited down, starting with questions or topics that don’t lead anywhere interesting. 2. INTERVIEWING- Often the interviews are pretty unfocused and meandering. This is a case where “we’ll just have a conversation and record it” doesn’t work, from a listener’s perspective. Lij is obviously an amazing engineer with a wealth of experience but can be a really frustrating host/interviewer, sometimes coming across as unprepared around the questions he will ask or how he will guide the listener through the conversation. Often it’s put on the guest to just talk about whatever they want, which is probably both frustrating for the guest and contributes to the unfocused feel. A little more control and thoughtfulness by the host can go a long way here to tighten things up and keep things moving. 3. REFERENCES - Related to the above point, there have been more than a few interviews that go into details around a song, album, or book that Lij and the guest apparently both know, but they never mention it by name. Gotta let the listener know what the heck you’re talking about so they can follow along. 4. UNNATURAL AD BREAKS - One of the most ad-heavy podcasts out there. That’s great to see the support, but because there aren’t many natural breaks built into the podcast structure, the ads can be really disruptive when they come out of nowhere and interrupt a topic mid-stream. I hope this critical feedback is helpful. I have learned a lot through the podcast and it has so many ways in which it can be made even better and more geared toward the listener through better structure, interviewing, and editing.

    Lij is the best
I’ve made two records with Lij and can vouch for his expertise. He’s a great guy, an incredible engineer, and truly passionate about the art of recorded music.
  • tdwolfe
    Just a truly invaluable resource.
Lij is just a really cool dude. This show has been consistently awesome, and I always learn new, cool tricks. Not only that, but a lot of the interviews remind me of how much fun it is to actually get in the studio and make music. Thanks, Lij!

    Consistently Killer
Highly recommend RSR076. Many great eps but this one is incredibly helpful for mixing.

    Should’ve found this sooner!!!!!!
I can’t believe it has taken me this long to find this podcast. If there is anything related to music or music production I am in it. I commute two hours a day to work so I have listened to my share of content. This podcast is exactly what I am looking for. Weather you are a student of music production or love music this is PURE ENTERTAINMENT!! To bad this podcast isn’t easier to find. I will be sharing.

    Best audio podcast around
Im an audio engineer in LA making my way at the village, and i cannot explain how important your podcast is Lij. I love how your questions and guests touch on so many topics - including things outside of audio engineering principles: Work-life balance, personal responsibility, the business of the industry, etc. Your podcast is inspiring and informing. Im an avid listener and have a huge respect for your approach. I recommend this for all up and coming engineers.

    Great Podcasts
I really enjoy the variety Lij has offered in this Podcast. He really captures the essence of what his guests have to offer. There is a good blend of technical knowledge which is super important. There are very good teaching tools, as well as wonderful stories the guests have to offer.

    Amazing
Amazing podcast. Gets nerdy enough to be knowledgeable yet keeps it practical.

    Great resource
Great interviews. Not afraid to ask basic questions that he knows dans are asking

    Learned nothing from 196
I listened to all 2 hours of episode 196 titled “designing the perfect studio” with Steve durr and it was the biggest waste of 2 hours in my life. Nothing against RSR- the acoustician was given plenty of opportunity to give insight into the science of acoustics but all he talked about was the “vibe” and making sure a studio looks and feels cool with pretty lights. I heard the words “absorption” and “diffusion” maybe once in all 2 hours. Lij Shaw, maybe you could do another episode on this topic where we can learn something? Thank you.

    Great podcast
I always learn something new from listening to the podcast. Your guests are great. I enjoy hearing how they started out and grew their careers. We have a great community in our industry. It’s nice to hear everyone sharing their tips, tricks and stories.

    Very informative especially for beginners
I learned about this podcast from Lij’s free mix master bundle and it is very helpful and the perfect pair to his bundle. The bundle helps you with the technical side of mixing/mastering and this can give you more of the real life experience.

    Just what I needed
This podcast was like water in the desert. Once I found it, it turned out to be just what I needed. That was almost 2 years ago. I’ve learned a ton from this podcast. Lij asks the “dumb” questions which makes you feel not so dumb. So honest. So real. Keep it up!

    Trumpet for a 4 track!!!
Sounds like an awesome podcast not everyone understands studio sound or live sound enjoyed your interview
  • Bob Barney
This is a well made podcast! Excellent!
I’ve listened to many podcasts, YouTube videos, whatever, on the subjects Lij covers, and these are extremely valuable. If you just listen, these folks plainly say really impactful clues and kinda “big picture” stuff right there on the show. Then there’s Lij’s questions / comments. Really awesome!
  • Bildjan
    Tooooo long
I used to love this podcast but now some episodes are 2+ hours long... who has the time? They just chat too much. I wish he would edit it down
  • Cfahitfjeo
    Two thumbs way up

Lij Shaw’s show is educational and entertaining. I’ve learned a lot from him and his guests. It’s hard to believe these podcasts are free of charge!!
  • Jimbo21120
    Awesome
    I love listening to this!
  • Fruity2x!
    95% fun 95% info...
...I save the other 5% for sleep (see episode 181 for the joke) Honestly though this is a really great podcast not just for the info but Lij is a really cool dude. The times I’ve made a comment on Twitter or FB he has replied back and even poked me about a typo that still makes me laugh sometimes when I hear him joke around with his guests. The cool thing is he gets his guests to tell stories and you never know what coolness will come from it, hell sometimes I find out I’m doing things real producers and engineers do!!!

    Great stuff

So glad I stumbled upon RSR and this killer community. Lij is an expert conversationalist with a deep love for music and recording (and some incredible guests) - I love the honesty and accessibility of his work. Are you ready to rock???

    Can't get enough!
This is actually the 1st Podcast I'm reviewing (which says a lot) because it's THE BEST ONE FOR RECORDING/MIXING/MASTERING! I've been listening to Lij's Podcast for the past 6 mos or so and I'm hooked! I'm a drummer and have a jam band here in Denver, CO. I started recording my band on a handheld recorded about 6 years ago, moved to multitracking in Garageband and have been a Logic Pro X user for the past 3 or so years. Needless to say, I've caught the recording/mixing bug and my skills have been steadily improving thanks to all those that share their knowledge. Thanks for this Lij!!!
  • gsbe_com
    Good resource
I enjoy this podcast and Lij’s style of interviewing is super laid back. The guests that I’ve listened to have all been interesting and I learned a few things. I’ll continue to listen and would recommend it to other audio nurds
