Gamblers

193

‘Gamblers’ is an anthology series that follows the underground lives and careers of professional gamblers. Season 1 stretched from the blackjack table to the poolroom and all the way to the racetrack. After reporting most of Season 1 remotely during the early days of the pandemic, host David Hill hits the road in Season 2, taking listeners to the places where hustlers and savants gather to compete with each other. This season, we’re visiting the golf courses of Las Vegas, the drag strips of Florida, and the Casino de Monte Carlo for a backgammon tournament.‘Gamblers’ is not just a show about betting, it’s a show about the people who devoted their lives to gambling and never looked back.

    More episodes!!!
Finally, a good podcast with real people. I’ve enjoyed the podcast so far. I hope you continue. I’ve travelled to country playing pool, staking good players, playing poker tournaments and more. It’s awesome that you focus on gambling and have different guests from different gambling back grounds. I look forward to future episodes. Update: I wish you released more episodes, more often. There isn’t enough good gambling podcasts to enjoy.

    Freakonomics on steroids
Maybe if the music was not so bad the conversations would not be so boring. I listened to the backgammon story and i realized as a radio listener I prefer interviews to catnip

    Horrible
    - bad interviewing skills -not a real gambler. He’s the guys who’s at the table always watching. After he lost his $40 dollars. -reads basic info/news from other podcast - just a waste of time. P.S. when you site facts from different places/studies please note where you got it from .

    Season 2 is very meh
Season 1 was much better story telling and more interesting story lines. Season 2 didn’t hit the mark in my opinion.

    Great story telling, compelling subject
There’s something truly alluring about the topic and the host does a great job presenting the stories. I love that he travels to the locations to create the story which helps with the drama. One of my favorite podcasts this year.

    Technical Nitpicking
Would be excellent, but for whatever reason they don’t mic their subjects well for sit-down interviews. Really great stories are lost to budget-saving audio, which for a podcast is…not ideal.

    So good.
Just catching up on the episodes. Really excellent. I hope there will be more!

    We need more gamblers
4 episodes or however many you did, is just not enough. This may be the best show on the ringer.

    In your blood
Great podcast for people who love to put money in play you know the people if you know if you’re the one or not it’s in your blood. Gambling is a way of life grandmothers and kids do it every day and don’t even realize it. This pod brings to light the best of the best!

    Not insightful
I was excited about this podcast, but it turned out to be a real letdown unfortunately. We learned literally nothing about the strategies employed by these people - the hole carders, horse bettors, gin and poker players - and instead the entire 50-60 minutes were interviews and stories about the people. Which may have been ok, but the people are pretty boring. The most recent episode is about a poker player and the big climax is him playing a 4-month online Omaha game against some random Dutch guy which was so boring I had to just turn it off. Could have been a great podcast series, but really missed the mark.

This is a great podcast. Just great stories I have never heard before. It was like listening to an audio book. My go to Sunday walking the dog podcast.

    Phil Galfond Legend
Phil has been a legend of the poker community for years. Been playing for 18 years and have followed Phil’s career for years. Watched the Galfond Challenge vs VeniVedi live and it was an amazing ride. Phil is one of the good guys on poker and always wishing him the best. Enjoy the pod!

    Podcast about smart people
Gamblers tells the stories of prominent gamblers in different arenas. How they started & adventures along the way provides great story telling. I’ve never gambled. Know nothing about it, but love this podcast. Look forward to every episode.

    Incredible
This podcast is put together well and tells great stories. I never thought an episode about gin rummy would be interesting but I’m often wrong.

  • Detroit Jonny
    Great stories
A lot of information packed into 1 hour. It feels like you really get to know the subject’s life and crazy, interesting line of “work.” So far the Gina Fiore episode and the Scott Frost episode were excellent. Two thumbs up.

    Good content, insufferable host
Less of the host trying to sound like he’s intelligent and a deep thinker would make this podcast much better.
