Willem-BarentszWhat if Seinfeld was a Podcast? It's a podcast about nothing. Ostensibly they go on wikipedia, they click "random article" and they talk about it. But I liken it to what if you took the show Seinfeld and turned it into a podcast, but it was only hosted by George Castanza and Cosmo Kramer. They both bring that chaotic energy and there's no telling what will be discussed. You need to listen to this podcast to achieve Serenity Now. They're out there, Jerry and they're loving every minute of it!

Saturday Morning ObscuritiesExclusively The Best BoysIf you're looking for wholesome people talking about random topics and historical events, look no further than Dilettante Ball. Spencer & Johnny are 2 improvisers and performers who are just delightful to listen to! You'll feel like you just sat down at a busy Applebees, and the 2 guys in the booth behind you are so entertaining to listen to, you don't say anything the whole time you're there. Your date looks at you awkwardly at first, then asks why you're not saying anything. They try their best to understand your situation, you had spoken before, so they know you're not shy, but they've had a long day and can't take this anymore. They storm angrily out of the Applebees, as you look on longingly and disappointedly. But you know in your heart you made the right choice not interupting hearing the conversation behind you, these boys are hilarious! One time they tried to collect all the new quarters! From one podcast to another, don't listen to us, listen to them! Five Stars.

3rinerinHeartwarming and Dumb in the Best Way PossibleI've never been happier to listen to two fools talk about nothing - their easy rapport makes me laugh and I've never heard two people who were more in each other's brains. Spencer is the sweetest and Johnny's mind goes places that truly no one (but Spencer) could predict. Listen to this podcast if you need to laugh, fall asleep, or feel normal about knowing nothing!

GrandpaJacketlightning in a milk jugThis is a podcast that is two friends that help me get through the week. They make me laugh and they try to make sure I never learn anything useful. Thank goodness.

bubblegumbackfatThe Only Football and Animal Crossing Podcast that I know ofSlam your butts on the ground and this pod in your ears and listen to these two dudes discuss things they don't know anything about (football, history, science, whatever), and segue it to things that they do (Florida, Animal Crossing, Britney Spears, etc). As you work your way through the backlog, you can listen to the soothing voices of Johnny and Spencer as they slowly undo all of the work your teachers have done to educate you. At first, you'll be shouting: "That's not how you pronounce Oregon! You haven't even gotten to the cool thing about Svalbard yet!" - but a year of binging later and you'll be an expert on Santa Buddies, Florida during the 90's, and just waiting for that big smelly mic drop.

SvenMangoI can now very quickly spell dilettanteThis is the best 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd podcast I’ve ever heard

CheesetrollMade my wife think she was having a strokeWe saw this dog that was freaking out and barking at some random dude on the beach and I said, “Maybe that dude smells like mustard.” My wife gave me a quizzical look. “Because he’s been speeding,” I explained. That’s when she asked me if she was having a stroke, because she hadn’t listened to episode 360 of this podcast. Don’t let that happen to you - listen to this delightful goulash of words and ideas and concepts!

Grand Master ChubbDoing it for that 69😏Fantastic show! I have been meaning to write a review for a while but the last episode gave me that push I need. No other show can have me laughing from monumental Supreme Court cases to cereal sauce in a succinct 15 min block perfect for my commute to work! Can not recommend enough! Smell ya later! Ps: 69 words and 420 letters! Just kidding I have no idea if that’s true but it would be pretty cool if it was.

E.WinteeLaugh so hard people will worry. The world is a better place with these 2 good boys in it. Some days my coworkers will check on me because I’ll be laughing so hard they confuse it with crying.

JamsWilkinsonMove over McElroys, there are new good boys in town! And the town is called Great-Podcastville.Dilettante Ball is one of my favorite podcasts. I found it through Johnny's otther podcast, Campaign, and very quickly went through the large backlog of old episodes. There are so many wonderful things about this podcast. Johnny has the best laugh in podcasts. Spencer is the sweetest boy this side of the Mississippi. Listening to their episodes feels like chatting with a couple of old friends after a house party just ended. It always feels like a safe space, and makes my stress and anxiety melt away. I highly recommend, 10/10 Good Boys Time.

vriska serket's ex wifealmost killed me one timeMost of the time when I listen to podcasts it’s for one of three reasons: 1. I need them or I can’t fall asleep 2. For funnie joakes and goofs 3. To experience but a taste of what it is like to have A Friend who you talk to on a regular basis This one hits all three of those. It’s a super chill listen but also has had me laughing to the point of tears like one time i had an episode playing while I was on a treadmill and I was too out of breath to actually laugh at the cheeto soda cereal bit but it was really funny so I just kind of dry heaved until I fell off the treadmill and in that moment I legitimately thought I was gonna die and it would be smell ya never for ya girl anyway five stars the jokes were too hot and I almost passed away

this american diceSea jail teacherMet Johnny at star wars celebration Talked about watching Santa Buddies These guys don’t know much about history And as a Florida teacher that’s saying something Thanks dudes Love the show

gbeeeeeeeThis podcast cured my sleep apnea. No, really.

BobbyFett405Smell ya FOREVERFound the show after needing more of the essence of Leenik, and I’ve smelled better. No two dilettantes could have more artfully crafted a facade of a format to continually discuss the same eight topics from the 90’s and early 2000’s. Listen and you will certainly learn that things exist, and I guarantee the boys will get back around to memes, vapes, Harry Potter, cartoons, the devil, and Svalbard. It’s amazing how much hearing people who know nothing about anything can keep you coming back for more. Thanks, Boys!

MollieDukeLiterally puts me to sleep!I’ve tried a few of the podcasts that are supposed to help you sleep, but I’ve never had much luck. Dilettante Ball is entertaining enough to interrupt the racing thoughts that usually keep me up, but nonsensical enough that it’s easy to drop the thread of conversation when I’m ready to nod off. The episodes are so short that I’m usually able to get all the way through one or two before falling asleep, and I always try to start back up the next night where I left off because I actually do really like the podcast. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try giving this podcast a go. Johnny and Spencer, I can’t thank you enough!
-
sonofahurricaneLike sitting in on a conversation with good friendsFrom the very first episode I listened to, the conversations Johnny and Spencer have always just feel like you could easily jump in—which of course is not true, but is still a delightful feeling. The Wikipedia articles are, at this point, sort of more of an artifice (look there are a lot of boring articles out there!) but can definitely still be a delight. A great little show I strongly recommend!

BDc MaNUnoriginal 5 Star ReviewI came here to hear more of Johnny after listening to Campaign. This Podcast helped me realize two things, one, that Johnny is my spirit animal, and two Spencer is one of his friends. If you’re looking for something silly, upbeat, partially informative, or easy to listen to, look no further. Who would have ever thought that random Wikipedia articles are such a great jumping off point for a show? PS: Keep the Crypt in Cryptmas!

DrRob8091Great podcast about nothing at allEvery time I listen to the show, I am reminded of the only Wikipedia vandalism I ever did. In an article about Scrabble and its short-lived game show, I put in the tidbit, “The tagline of the show in promo broadcasts was, ‘Every Man Dies, Not Every Man Truly Scrabbles’.” That edit survived five years and numerous revisions. It was published in GQ and the Guardian UK and even made it into two Master’s Theses about game theory (don’t use Wikipedia for your Masters Thesis). So now on my CV, I list “Contributing Writer for GQ and Guardian UK” among my accomplishments. Keep it up, guys!

pomegranateMDI read all Wikipedia articles in Johnny’s voice nowif you’re looking for a podcast to make your coworkers in your open-office plan wonder just why you shake your head at your phone so much on tuesdays, look no further! but truly: this podcast is one of the highlights of my week. i could listen to johnny and spencer talk about anything and know whatever it is will be funny as hell. thanks lads ❤️

baticeerA great dose of funI found this podcast through wanting to hear more of Johnny from Campaign and it’s quickly become one of my favorites. The only reason I haven’t binged all their episodes yet is because I usually listen to podcasts while doing other things and I can’t have people staring at me because I’ve cracked up laughing while eating lunch in public. Johnny & Spencer are hilarious guys who take conversations on wild tangents that will teach you a lot of things, most of which are wholly unrelated to the article title. The show is hard to describe but the episodes are nicely bite-sized so if you’re interested, just go ahead and give it a try. The only downside is that it feels so much like having a fun chat with your buds that sometimes if the guys are wondering out loud about something you know, you’ll just be mentally yelling at your headphones wishing you could tell them “Actually, the reason King Tut is the pharaoh everyone knows about is because his tomb was the first & only one ever discovered that hadn’t been broken into and sacked by grave robbers already, so it was full of artifacts in pristine condition and became famous!” ... just for example.

Darrell MontiThey should rename this podcast “Chuck Taylor All-Stars”......cuz these two sure can CONVERSE 😎! Very much a fan of these witty, worldly dudes and their funny banter.

The binch in the northLike a TED talk for smart peopleI’ve been bingeing this podcast for the last 3 days and I’ve learned a lot! Mostly about what Florida was like in the 90s. I love it so much I’ve been workshopping a drinking game. Feedback welcome -drink every time the boys mention Florida -drink every time Harry Potter is referenced -drink when Johnny tells us the article (drink twice if it takes more than 7 minutes to get there) -drink if the tangent somehow loops back around to the article -if we’ve got another 5 star review CHUG
-
maggieannmaethis podcast has a very specific vibeand that vibe is sitting in the backseat on a long road trip while two good friends in the front seat make each other laugh. it’s very comfortable and effortlessly funny, which i love. good stuff.
-
Levi TompkinsThe road less traveledIn life you often find the best things by accident. When you focus on your goal to much you miss all the amazing things along the way. These two dont have that problem. They choose a thing to talk about and almost immediately begin to talk about whatever else happens to occur to them and what occurs to them is often incredibly funny. Earnest absurdist observations that never fail to bring a smile to my face.

ShreddedLettuceI Declare!Heard about this show on BHIKKE. It’s a podcast about 1990’s Earth nostalgia where they click random article on Wikipedia. Creepy Crawlers, Micro Machines, Sockem Boppers. They call it Dilettante Ball because they dance around the subject so gracefully in their beautiful, beautiful gowns. You can’t believe it. Smoking is the coolest and Fast Food is king. You got a zippo? Right here bud, cop a squat. You want a podcast with less organization than One Shot, more tangents than Campaign, and less lore than Never Tell Me the Pods? You are in luck Chuck Warsop. This sucker’s hot and ready, cool to the touch and revving her engines cause it’s a big time show tonight and everyone’s high but the bellhop. Because you asked; caterpillars are the same species as butterflies but there is contention about this in the scientific community right now. Not if I smell you first.
-
matt from IndianaFinally! Now that the episode where they talk a lotta smack about my state has dropped off of iTunes, I can wholeheartedly and without reservation endorse this show.
-
Moulson1313Hamazing!I originally started listening to this podcast to hear more of Johnny after hearing him play a space alien on a Star Wars actual play podcast. I, however, have stayed to learn a surprising amount. It’s like if NPR was fun! You guys are amazing, please keep up the awesome work.
-
Nathan OnksNever DisappointsI just started listening to the podcast a few weeks ago and I only have about 20 episodes until I’m caught up. I do not start my day until I have their precious voices flowing through my ears. Johnny and Spencer are phenomenal at saying stuff that I’ll listen to. I don’t know their secret, but Dilettante Ball is a must for every persons life. I can’t wait until these guys have a P.O. box so I can send them chicken wings and fan mail.

Kingbobson*Generally DelightfulLove the the podcast. Despite some ignorant and wrong headed beliefs about the fair state of North Dakota, these silly gentlemen are a delight whether they are talking about random articles or wandering down rabbit holes. Check it out.
-
LovelyRitaMontpelierThese two guys hardly ever know what they're talking about (Johnny, the capital of Vermont is pronounced "mont-peely-ur") but they don't let that stop them from rambling on about anything other than the random article they clicked on this week. Feels to me like listening to my old college pals riff about whatever comes to mind. Always enjoyable and comfy, occasionally hilarious. Thanks guys!

GundamCricketMore Like, "Dilettawesome!"I had this obnoxious rash that just wouldn't go away, so my doctor prescribed me Dilettante Ball. At first I thought he was crazy, but wouldn't you know it, within a few weeks my rash was gone and I had developed the power to levitate birds! Now, I'm not saying that you will absolutely develop super powers like I did by listening to Dilettante Ball, because this is text so I'm not actually saying anything, but you will absolutely develop super powers like I did by listening to Dilettante Ball. On a scale of 1 to 10 (4 being the highest) I give it a solid A+, with those bonus points the teacher sometimes gives you for putting a funny answer down on a test. Listen to this podcast, it will both literally and figuratively change your life, I bet my super powers on it!
-
CaniconicalGreat for my commuteJust FYI, Lord Voldemort's name origin doesn't really translate/localize into other languages like Japanese very well so they mostly just use the English explanation. J.K. Rowling's word play was too strong! I'll tweet you the link I found. Anyway, I just started listening from the beginning and been listening as they come out at the same time so I've got plenty to listen to! My commute to work is about 30 min 1-way so I love that I can finish an entire episode of these boys' goofs before I reach my destination. They're both really funny on their own, but together they bring out the best in each other and have a chemistry that makes me smile every time.

Soonerman1010oklahomaYou guys were confused on state song by Flaming Lips. Well, they are from and live in OKC. They are very vocal citizens and very active citizens. Just some clarification there.

DwmcguffVery Good- I'm very into thisWhat's crappening in this review: Came from campaign where Johnny is my favorite performer of the gang. I'd been hesitant to listen because a podcast about two dudes just talking seemed iffy. I ran out of other shows to listen to and gave it a chance. So glad that I did. I listen when driving or at the gym. Spencer and Johnny have put me in constant danger of either dropping very heavy weights on my face/head/body and/or swerving off the road in fits of laughter. So why 5 stars for a show that is actively trying to murder me with half-truths, dubious "facts" and questionable opinions? Because I, like the hosts, am impatiently awaiting the sweet release of death. But on a more serious note: I love this podcast. My favorite thing is the upbeat, fun attitude both hosts have. Even when disappointed or angry about something there seems to be a smile. The "yes, and" conversation is such a genuine reprieve from antagonistic talking heads and stiff interviews. It feels like spending 20 minutes with a couple of buddies. If you'd like to read more reviews like this tweet at me at @dwmcguff d-w-m-c-g-u-f-f hashtag #reviewrevu. Smell ya later.

20sCentristAmazing PodcastCame here from the campaign podcast. I was skeptical, but any podcast that references godsmack, sublime, and makes me laugh wins my interest. Great show.

Bribear211D-I-L-E-T-T-A-N-T-E-B-A-L-LHands down, one of the best podcasts I have ever listened to. Who knew that listening to Johnny and Spencer briefly discuss random Wikipedia articles and then dive into whatever happens to be on their minds could be so entertainin? Well it is. Found this podcast through Campaign, and am so glad I decideded to give it a shot. As I listen, I can't tell if I'm learning an exuberant amount of accurate information about a bunch of unimportant topics, or if I'm learning really inaccurate information about a bunch of really important topics. Either way, don't care. Love the show, keep going strong. Team Valor forever! P.S. Every time Johnny spells "Dilettante Ball" on the show, I try to spell it out as well. My new goal in life is keep up with him as he says it. Insane.

Del CamboFun times with an awesome content generatorEasily one of my top 3 favourite podcasts, just relaxing and reading some Wikipedia. And talking about anything else. I regret not picking this up back in 2014, so I could have won the Dilettante Ball Great Quarter Race 2014. Out of nowhere, my grandma gave me a full State Quarter collection for Christmas, and I might have saved Johnny and Spencer from having to read some truly awful State articles if I had sent it in. Great show, awesome cover artwork, and an intro that makes me laugh every time. Five Stars.
-
Mishy StellarThe only podcast I listen to without failI listen to a lot of podcasts. An unfeasable amount, really. And so there are some times when some get pushed onto the backburner, and don't get listened to right away. Not so with this one! No, every tuesday, my commute is made about 38% better by the addition of Johny and Spencer, the avuncular duo (somehow). Sometimes I learn so much about random things, and other times I spend it laughing or raging at their incorrect assumptions about things. If you want to listen to the backlog and know American History, the States episodes are a wonderful treat, and I was eagerly waiting for each one. Anyways, I love this podcast, and everyone else will too. Spencer, you're amazing. Johnny, you're a pretty cool dude too. Keep it up! Now if only they would do more goosebumps books! #halloweencreep2k16

The State of OhioA+Wholesome, educational entertainment for the whole family. Johnny and Spencer are widely regarded as America's foremost straight white positive role models, and their opinions on such subjects as Star Wars, ObamaCare, and the great sport of Cricket should be accepted without question. Smell ya later.
-
PashtoolioLoving itJust started listening a month ago and already got through half the episodes. Best thing while driving to work or cooking dinner. Just like the hosts in every other episode i'd like to plug my show @spatula_bachelor on youtube instagram and twitter. Smell ya later you beautiful voiced hosts
-
lyndz_e10#radashellThis is a crazy stupid fun podcast. I told all my friends about it and they hate me because they can't stop listening to it. The only thing I don't like about this podcast is how I'm all caught up now and have to wait a week for new episodes, which has made my commute unbearable.
-
HillaryiousBSmell Ya LaterFound this podcast through Campaign. It’s all I’ve listened to for a week straight on my hour commute to and from work. Highlight is Johnny’s exasperated sighs.
-
traci112Funny podcastA friend suggested this podcast and I love it. I have literally laughed out loud many times...."smell you later".
