Civil War Talk Radio

16

Each week since October 2004, host Gerald Prokopowicz and a guest discuss the various aspects of Civil War History. Each show consists of an hour long conversation with guests from the very well known historians James McPherson, Doris Kearns Goodwin and Gary Gallagher to mention a few. Gerald also speaks with artists such as Don Troiani, filmmakers Ken Burns, re-enactors Rob Hodge, novelists Jeff Shaara, curators, game designers, children’s authors, collectors, and others. In addition to well known names like the ones mentioned, the show often features authors of first books who are just starting to make their reputations.

    Takes too long
If only this podcast didn’t spend so much time talking about everything other than the civil war. Get to it!

Can’t get through the background music blare
Why oh why have the background music blaring over the narrative ? I made it a few minutes in and turned it off. Not even sure if the content is good because who can tolerate this?

“Biased towards the Union view”? (Critique of a critique ; )
Just read another review, with above title, and what a disturbing take. Yes, their is an inherent bias towards “the Union side these days” because that was and remains the United States of America and the position of equality and freedom. Which of those 3 do you not support, “Cleve55”?

    Too much
I have to advance every podcast to about the 8:45 minute mark to avoid the humdrum banalities of the professor. I am not interested in the events at your backwater college. It is not germane to the listener. He is quite impressed with himself. This is how tenure affects the academic types. He also commits the cardinal sin of interpreting historical events, especially involving slavery, through modern eyes. This is okay for laymen, but completely unforgivable from a seasoned history professor. Sir, you know better... Additionally, he often interjects his left wing political views. Subtly of course, but it is quite obvious. The show content is usually quite interesting. Delving into little discussed areas and topics. I enjoy it. However, it suffers because the host is quite dry and rather uninspiring. And it begs the obvious question; How do your students remain awake? This could be so much better. Perhaps if it were hosted by one of your teaching assistants? Someone with a bit more energy and enthusiasm.

    Civil War ramblings
Outstanding! I’m a truck driver so I’m behind the wheel constantly & Mr. Prokopowicz & his array of guests are fantastic. I grew up very interested n the war because of my farther an after all these years my interest has never been higher & to have this show with so many interesting topics is a pleasure. Kudos

    Why the confusing double listings?
Other then that , find it well done and interesting. Although slightly biased toward the union point of view. That can be expected this day and age.
